This Physical Therapy Month we want to shoutout one of our PTs, Sasha Small, PT, DPT, GCS who has been with VNS Health for over 2 years! Sasha started her PT journey in 2018 because she wanted to have a direct impact on her patients' care. She helps them practice walking, educating them on how to make their home safer for recovery, and improving their strength. She says how some people are gung-ho about recovering as fast as possible, while others are worried about getting injured. For her, it's all about working with the patient to meet their needs at their own pace. "I get to meet a lot of older adults who are motivated to improve and eager to get out of bed and make that recovery."   She educates patients on the appropriate exercises to improve their strength and balance to reduce the risk of falling in addition to reviewing potential hazards in the home.  Thank you, Sasha, for making such an impact on all of your patients!

How do our physical therapists (PT) make sure that people who are hesitant to do physical therapy get started? Golda Ibale, one of our PTs, shares “I always try to understand my patients. I make a point of listening to what their specific concerns and problems are. I don’t just walk into a home and give them orders. Oftentimes when patients are resistant to therapy, it’s because they don’t understand why they’re being told to do something. When I explain to them why they’re in pain, and what the exercises or medications are for, then they understand. And once they’re informed, they take an active part in their treatment.” Thank you, Golda, for always going the extra mile to understand your patients! Inspired by Golda's words? We'd love to have you join our team! Check out our PT job openings today. https://bit.ly/4eE0l5r #PhysicalTherapy #PhysicalTherapyMonth #MakingADifference #PhysicalTherapyCareers

If you are planning to fast in observation of Yom Kippur, remember that your health comes first. You are exempt from fasting if you are sick or have a condition that would make fasting dangerous. Reach out to your health care provider if you’re not sure if fasting is safe for you. For all who are fasting – may you have an easy and meaningful fast! #YomKippur

Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay, where we raise awareness about mental health issues across the globe. This year's theme is "Prioritizing Mental Health in the Workplace" highlighting the importance mental health places on organizations, leadership, and team members. We believe mental health is part of overall health and empower all our team members to focus on their mental health just like we do for our patients, members, and neighbors. Don't forget to take some time for yourself to relax, read a book, meditate, go for a run — whatever you need to do maintain your mental well-being. #MentalHealth #MentalHealthCare

One of our wound care nurses, Anne Walsh, ANP-BC, CWOCN, ACHPN, will be presenting at the Northeast Chapter Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society this Saturday, October 12. Anne will be discussing how wound care for end-of-life patients can improve overall healing outcomes. Hospice and palliative care patients often have varying types of wounds, leading to increased stress for the patient, caregiver, and care team. That is why wound care plans can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life
