About us
At Volunteers of America, we are more than a nonprofit organization. We are a ministry of service that includes 16,000 paid, professional employees dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential. Through our hundreds of human service programs, including housing and healthcare, Volunteers of America touches the lives of 1.5 million people in over 400 communities in 46 states as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico each year. Since 1896, we have supported and empowered America's most vulnerable groups, including veterans, at-risk youth, the frail elderly, men and women returning from prison, homeless individuals and families, people with disabilities, and those recovering from addictions. Our work touches the mind, body, heart — and ultimately the spirit — of those we serve, integrating our deep compassion with highly effective programs and services. Approximately 60,000 volunteers throughout the country help our employees deliver these life-changing services

School is back in session at VOA! Our team at the National Office joined Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas at Lutheran Social Services to pack backpacks with essential school supplies for children and families in need throughout greater Washington D.C. Last year, our Operation Backpack campaign impacted 50,000 students nationwide, making sure they had the supplies they needed to succeed in the classroom and beyond. At VOA, we are committed to supporting our veterans through their highs and lows. Meet Ted, former signalman in the military turned co-owner of a successful food truck business in Florida. Transitioning back to civilian life was difficult for Ted. After losing his apartment, he turned to VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA FLORIDA where he found supportive services, stability, and ultimately was able to revive his food truck business. Every year, VOA provides affordable housing to more than 27,000 veterans, making sure our nation’s heroes are treated with dignity. #healthycommunities4all
