School is back in session at VOA! Our team at the National Office joined Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas at Lutheran Social Services to pack backpacks with essential school supplies for children and families in need throughout greater Washington D.C. Last year, our Operation Backpack campaign impacted 50,000 students nationwide, making sure they had the supplies they needed to succeed in the classroom and beyond. 🚸 Today is World Children’s Day - the theme is 'For every child, every right' 🚨 Each day 500 children are killed in preventable traffic crashes worldwide. Sometimes they are killed just yards from school entrance. Each traffic death and injury violates a child’s right to an education. Star Rating for Schools (SR4S) is an award-winning evidence-based programme of tools, training and support to measure, manage and communicate the risk children are exposed to on a journey to school. SR4S is informing strategic investment in infrastructure upgrades saving lives and preventing serious injuries every day. It s also empowering global and community advocacy to address the leading killer of young people worldwide - road traffic deaths. Every child has the right to travel to and from school safely. Lets make every school journey safe for our kids! https://lnkd.in/g7Qz24BY FIA Foundation FedEx 3M Prudential plc

This summer, kids 18 and under can eat for free at 14 library locations. Starting June 18, lunch will be served Tuesdays through Fridays from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. (except on Juneteenth and Independence Day) Last year, the library served 11,421 lunches to kids throughout Sacramento County. During the summer, 88% of kids who get meals at school don’t have access over summer break. Lunch at the Library supports food equity in our community with meal sites within our neighborhoods.
