Today, we want to highlight our new Outreach Coordinator, Katie Griffin. Katie is our Outreach Coordinator, joining our VSRA staff in May 2024. She executes the organization's Outreach Program as well as overseeing a wide variety of committees and events. Katie's ability to lead teams, manage resources, and execute strategic initiatives makes her a valuable asset to our staff. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband and two daughters. Today, VSRA had their Cybersecurity meeting with the fantastic Greg Tomchick from Valor Cybersecurity presenting! We were very thankful to have Mr. Tomchick there to discuss things learned recently to help local defense contractors stay current and ready for cybersecurity requirements. Today, we want to highlight our Development and Programs Manager, Joseph Frommelt. Joe Frommelt joined our staff in March 2022, bringing with him 30 years of naval service. He is enthusiastic about collaborating with VSRA membership to support the Ship Repair Industry. Joe's responsibilities include implementing and enhancing new business initiatives, programs, and events that align with the strategic goals of the VSRA & VSRF. He closely collaborates with the VSRF Board of Directors to develop workforce initiatives that benefit the Association membership and the Ship Repair Industry at large. Today was an inspiring day at our Workforce Development committee meeting as we discussed all things Women In Skilled Careers (#WISC)! We had the privilege of having Jacqueline Rondeau from the Hampton Roads Workforce Council (#HRWC) discuss their efforts on bettering women in the maritime industry and hearing from five incredible women who are making waves in the ship repair industry: Erica Trujillo of Q.E.D. Systems, Inc.; Allie Whitley, Monica Taylor, and Sarah Janes of Fairlead Integrated; and Joline Kress of Oceaneering. Their stories were truly motivating, as they shared their personal journeys, the challenges they’ve faced, and the triumphs they've achieved. Each of these women brought unique insights and ideas on how we can foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in this traditionally male-dominated field.   Their experiences highlighted the vital importance of diversity and the distinct perspectives that women bring to the table. They spoke about the need for mentorship programs, equitable opportunities for advancement, and the importance of creating a workplace culture that values and respects all employees.   The discussions were a powerful reminder of why diversity matters and how it can drive innovation and success. We left the meeting energized and committed to taking concrete actions based on their recommendations. Our goal is to work towards a future where everyone, regardless of gender, can thrive in the ship repair industry.   We are dedicated to implementing these changes and fostering an environment where women can succeed and lead. #WomenInShipRepair #Women #WorkforceDevelopment #Diversity
