Updates

  • WBMA is pleased to announce that we’ve received a Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award from The New York Landmarks Conservancy (our 8th in a row!) for our role in the restoration and reuse of 424 Fifth Avenue, the former Lord & Taylor flagship store. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to guide the exterior restoration component of the project, and congratulate all of the project team members! (Photo credits: Bilyana Dimitrova)

  • Walter B. Melvin Architects, LLC is pleased to announce the promotion of Janet Shelley-Perusini to an Associate of the firm. Since joining the firm in 1997, Janet has worked on a full range of project types that WBMA offers expertise in, from the restoration of civic, institutional, and religious buildings to high-end residential properties, both single-family and cooperative/condominium. She has offered continuous consulting services for several long-standing clients, where she has provided problem resolution for hundreds of leak investigations; building conditions surveys; garden surveys; FISP inspections; and exterior envelope repair programs that included masonry reconstruction, roofing replacement, and window restoration. Notable projects include Cedar Point Lighthouse, Columbia University Low Library, Grace Church in New York, Parc Vendome, the Osborne, the Dorilton, the San Remo, 34 Gramercy Park East, 1 Lexington Ave., 1040 Park Ave., 19 E. 70th St., 117 E. 72nd St., and 23-25 E. 11th St. With more than 25 years of experience in the fields of architecture and historic preservation, she excels in her technical work as much as in building strong relationships with clients, contractors, artisans, vendors, and colleagues. In recent years, she has helped implement the onboarding and professional development programs for the staff at WBMA. Janet received her Bachelor of Science in Architecture from New York Institute of Technology and is an Associate member of the AIA.

  • There is a great NYT Streetscapes column this week about the masterful stone carvers, the Piccirilli Brothers (link in comments). WBMA is fortunate to have had a hand in the conservation of several of their works, including the lions of NYPL and the lunettes of the Frick Collection. We are currently completing the exterior restoration of the tower and nave of Riverside Church, where we get to marvel at hundreds of their sculptures up-close.
