New flythrough of the future U.S. embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, currently under construction. The compound and individual buildings are designed to coexist with the desert landscape through the use of indigenous trees and plants for shade and cooling as well as the use of innovative facade materials that mitigate extreme heat and blend with the surrounding desert environment. The site’s perimeter is screened by bermed landscaping and low walls of local stone and desert plants. The outward surfaces of the buildings feature temperature modulating, earthen hues of light-colored concrete, natural stone, and metallic sun screens, interspersed by a shading canopy of palms and greenery. The working and living experience of embassy staff is a central design driver, with a focus on bringing natural light, airflow, and landscape views to workspaces, and offering a range of indoor and outdoor communal and recreation spaces. Morphosis Partner Arne Emerson notes: “By using the myriad of constraints and parameters an embassy must adhere to as design opportunities, we were able to create a compound that places people, community, health and wellness, sustainability, and the desert landscape at the center of our design while supporting the United States’ mission for diplomacy in Saudi Arabia." 5 years since the Casablanca Finance City Tower opened in Morocco—April, 2019! Comment from Morphosis and Project Partner Ung Joo Scott Lee: "Working on the first project in the Casablanca-Anfa new district was an amazing opportunity to help shape the future of the city. Seeing the neighborhood take shape around the project and Anfa Park is incredibly rewarding. It was always a goal for our team to help contribute to the growing community and we're excited to see it continue to evolve. We look forward to contributing to continuing our work in Morocco for many years to come." Photos 1 and 3 by Jasmine H. Park Photos 2 by Moncef Kabbaj
