About us
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) manages over 5 million acres of state-owned forest, range, commercial, agricultural and aquatic lands. We generate revenue that supports public schools, state institutions and county services. We also protect fish, wildlife habitat and clean water, and provide public access to outdoor recreation. Two of our most important responsibilities are preventing and suppressing wildfire, and overseeing forest practices. Washington DNR works with the public’s interest in mind, making decisions and taking actions guided by the principles of sound science and transparency. We support the vision of a sustainable future by protecting and managing the state’s natural resources so future generations will have them, too. This summer, Pierce County Public Works and DNR will begin collecting data on marine vegetation using underwater videography thanks to a $500,000 grant awarded to Pierce County. Eelgrass is sensitive to human impacts and is a primary indicator of ecosystem health. The data from this project will help us gain an understanding of the condition of ecosystems near shore and the possible impacts on fish, shellfish, and other native wildlife. https://lnkd.in/gYUhbN4m

Have you heard of the Healthy Environment for All (HEAL) Act? This historic law provides a roadmap for DNR and other state agencies to integrate environmental justice into strategic plans and decision-making processes. Environmental justice (EJ) is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people, regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies. Visit our site to learn more about EJ and how we’re incorporating it into our work at DNR. https://lnkd.in/gW7jSJqn
