About us
The Washington State Hospital Association is a membership organization representing community hospitals, health systems and several other health-related organizations. The association provides issues management and analysis, information, advocacy and other services. In 2005, WSHA launched the Patient Safety program to help hospitals improve patient safety by supporting the adoption of evidence-based protocols that have been proven to save lives. WSHA works to improve the health of the people of the state by becoming involved in all matters affecting the delivery, quality, accessibility, affordability and continuity of health care. As health care continues to be of vital importance for our communities, the mission of the state's first hospital and those that followed continues to be stronger than ever.... We care for the people who need us.

Join WSHA and clinical and quality leaders from across the state on Friday, Nov. 8, at the SeaTac Conference Center as we strive to make a difference in the lives of individuals and communities impacted by the opioid epidemic. Hospitals are on the front line of the nation’s opioid epidemic, engaging and interacting with persons that may be at risk for opioid-related harm. Collaboration and alignment across the healthcare community is key to preventing opioid-related harm. For more information or learn how you can engage in this program, contact Tina Seery at tinas@wsha.org

On June 25, WSHA honored 13 rural hospitals through its Critical Access Hospital Achievement of Quality Excellence. These crucial facilities offer essential care to those with geographically limited health care options, often in rural areas. They were recognized for dedication to quality care and achieving excellence across measures like sepsis, workplace violence, diagnostic excellence and health disparities. Congratulations to our 2024 honorees for their unwavering commitment to improving patient care. https://lnkd.in/g9gjyDPY

Prior Authorization is a tool used by health plans to reduce spending from improper payments and unnecessary care by requiring physicians and health care providers to get pre-approval for medical services. Delayed care due to prior authorization has severe and deadly consequences for patients. We must let doctors do their jobs. The Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act improves the prior authorization process by establishing: - Electronic Programs - Transparency and improved oversight - Expand beneficiary protections. This bipartisan, bicameral legislation is the most widely supported health care bill in Congress, with over 370 endorsements and 41 original cosponsors members of Congress. #PriorAuthorization. #FixPriorAuth

WSHA's response to Gov. Inslee’s directive on #emergency reproductive services: Gov. Inslee this morning announced that he is directing the state Department of Health to reaffirm and clarify state law requirements for hospitals to provide emergency #abortion services. Washington state #hospitals are already required by state law to provide emergency care to people experiencing these types of pregnancy complications. Washington hospitals are providing this care, including to people who have crossed the border from #Idaho in need of care. There is no evidence that Washington hospitals are not providing appropriate emergency #care. Washington hospitals are committed to providing emergency services for all conditions. It is our duty and privilege to provide excellent, comprehensive care for people in all kinds of emergency situations. Our core mission is #healing. https://lnkd.in/gyv_kKZU
