We're coming off one of our busiest weeks of the year last week, featuring 4 events that we participated in. Today is also exactly 4 years, 4 months, and 4 days since we launched (as a Facebook group, and then later became a 503(c)(3) in 2021) so it's timely to share about these last 4 events. On Tuesday, we had a booth at the Taste of Old North Dayton, a long running community event put on the the Old North Dayton Neighborhood Association, with help from the McCook Field neighborhood. This was such a great event, with music, lots of community organizations, and a lot of delicious free food. On Thursday, our founder Natalie was one of the speakers at a National Farmers Market Week event at 2nd Street Market. Many great, inspiring and encouraging stories about our local food system shared that evening. On Saturday, we had a book at the Nourishing Montgomery County festival at Levitt Pavilion. This was a first of its kind of event for Dayton and we were glad we participated. And lastly, last night we helped out at the Oakwood Ice Cream Social, collecting food waste and compostables to help make the event a low waste endeavor. Our overall takeaway from the week, if we had to pick one, was conversations. We met new people, we caught up with old friends, we made plans for future meetings, all because we engaged in conversations.

On the last day of Plastic-Free July, our Founder and Co-Director Natalie Warrick was the recipient of DayMet Credit Union's Do Good for Dayton award for July. This award recognizes an individual's dedication and contributions towards helping and improving our community. Natalie was honored and humbled to receive the award. We are proud of Natalie, and thankful for her vision, and also for our supporters, the individuals who volunteer with us, and the businesses and organizations who collaborate with us. Creating a healthier and more sustainable future is a community collaborative effort! Another live tv appearance for Waste-Free Dayton yesterday! We were invited to Good Day Dayton to talk about our upcoming Plastic Free July campaign. For me, this was another opportunity to work on being a more engaging and energetic speaker, and while I could nitpick at a few things, I'm fairly happy with how I did. I'm extremely happy that one of our volunteer team members, Scarlet, came on the show with me, and she did great! She has been on the team for over a year, doing more behind the scenes content creation for WFD. Even though she had never been on live tv before, she was enthusiastic about it, and very helpful to me as we practiced our talking points beforehand. She even took on a question that we had not prepared her to answer. Thankful for Scarlet and our entire volunteer team at WFD! You can watch the 4 min clip here: https://lnkd.in/e4HJeAn7

May 5th through May 11th is International Compost Awareness Week. We will be sharing tips and information about composting throughout the week on our different social media accounts. There are so many reasons why composting is beneficial, and we want to encourage people to consider how they can incorporate composting into their lives. In the Dayton area, there are several options for composting, such as The Foodbank, Inc.'s compost bucket program, Compost Dayton, and our own community compost stations at Pink Moon Goods and Five Rivers MetroParks' 2nd Street Market. We also have more information on our Tips page for composting at home. https://lnkd.in/g28akXYH #composting #compost #compostlife #internationalcompostawarenessweek #soilhealth #lovetheearth
