A group of diverse organizations collaborating to make Illinois a leader in reducing wasted food
About us
The Wasted Food Action Alliance was formed in response to the 2016 ReFED Report addressing national concern for the amount of food wasted in the United States. A multistakeholder approach was needed and included leading food businesses, solid waste agencies, environmental and hunger organizations, policymakers, and innovators. The group has grown both in number of members and focus, with each member contributing unique perspectives and expertise on the challenges and opportunities for waste reduction across the food supply chain.

The rich history behind the food we eat provides us with an explanation to how food evolves as we do. In every part of the world food is the basis of life, culture and community. It's hard not to think of food as an important life choice we make everyday. #FunFactFriday #ilharvestofthemonth #ILFarm2School #greenbeans

Mark your calendars for the spring edition of Reuse-a-Palooza at The Plant on Sun. March 17, 2024! This much-anticipated semiannual event is a fantastic opportunity to bring in clothes and household items for repair, dispose of those hard-to-recycle items in an eco-friendly way, donate bikes, gently used books, and more. Reuse-a-Palooza is much more than a recycling event; it's a chance to learn about and contribute to waste reduction and better environmental practices. If you're interested in getting involved, give us a shout.
