Speaking on the topic "The Purpose of Hospitality: How the Desire for Differences is Shaping the Industry”, Raghavendra Shanbhag LEED GA, Creative Director, joined by fellow panelists Jacopo Reale, Head of Architecture, Pininfarina, Lee Lin, Regional Director APAC, Nobu Hospitality, and Linda HeeJung Lee, Principal, HBA/Hirsch Bedner Associates Korea, explored the future of hospitality in a time of rapid evolution and shifting guest expectations. Curated by Yoko Choy, Content Chair of FIND - Design Fair Asia and Editor of Wallpaper* Magazine China, and moderated by Peggy Lui, Editor-in-Chief, Merci Media Corporation, the session revealed key insights shaping the industry: + Travelers are seeking experiences that tell the story of their destination. Designs must prioritize hyper-localization and authenticity, creating spaces that resonate with the cultural narrative of their surroundings. + Designs with identity and a sense of place bridge the past, present, and future—extending the space-time continuum to deeply connect with the community, environment, and guests alike. + Regenerative design is critical, promoting biodiversity by reintroducing indigenous species and creating spaces that give back to their natural ecosystems. + Staff wellbeing directly enhances the guest experience. Nobu's philosophy of kokoro—meaning "service from the heart"—is a prime example of how prioritizing employee welfare supports service excellence that leads to greater guest loyalty and satisfaction. + Adaptive reuse of non-hospitality spaces into hotels can lead to groundbreaking innovation, offering unique experiences that capture the imagination and create lasting memories. + Technology and AI are inevitable, but at the heart of hospitality remains the irreplaceable human touch. Thank you to Yoko, Peggy, and the FIND Global Summit for the opportunity to share these perspectives.
