As CEO at Groundswell (fka OC Human Relations), I help leaders transform organizations, businesses, and schools to be spaces of belonging.

I'm gonna brag on our team here a minute...on Tuesday Seema Shah and Don Han were the key note speakers and workshop facilitators for Orange County Community Foundation's I ❤️ OC Giving Day Summit! They shared some of the values and practices that help us at Groundswell on our road to belonging and they did an amazing job. Here was their check-in question for the session: If you were a 💧rain drop💧 where would you land right now? So, where would YOU land? Let me know in the comments! PS The "Together We #Belong" Giving Day is next month, I hope you will help us celebrate the #diverse communities of #OC. This is the time to show that everyone here belongs, no exceptions.

This year we expanded the Bridges Program to 7 elementary schools! Here's one of the workshops we put on for elementary school parents this week. 🏫 Read below to find out "why?"

𝗪𝗵𝘆? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹? There's a natural curiosity in young people as they explore the world. But as we grow older, that “why” often fades. We stop asking questions, sometimes because we’re busy or too embarrassed to seek clarity. As parents, it’s easy to assume that kids just 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 why we’re asking something of them. However, conflicts often arise when their assumptions don’t align with our reality. Clear, intentional communication is critical—not just for resolving issues, but for preventing them altogether. Today, I had the privilege of joining my amazing colleague Vanessa Coover in presenting the first workshop of a three-part series on effective communication with children. About 30 parents and guardians gathered at California Elementary School to dive into strategies that make the 𝘸𝘩𝘺 behind our requests crystal clear. Whether you're talking to a child or an adult, being transparent about your feelings, requests, and reasons can go a long way in avoiding misunderstandings and building stronger relationships. Grateful for the opportunity to help parents build these skills and create more positive interactions with their kids! If you're interested in bringing this type of training or workshop to your school, organization, or community, we’d love to help! • Resolving conflicts through the legal system, from filing a case to hiring an attorney, can be a costly proposition that may not be an option for many community members. At Groundswell we are proud to be able to offer free mediation sessions to individuals through our community mediation program. Did you know that our Dispute Resolution Programs respond to over 100 conflicts every month? Each of these represents human beings experiencing highly escalated conflict.
