About us
Providing children in foster care and the child protection system with educational programs, community-connected resources, and the unique opportunities they need to thrive. We Care provides children in foster care with the opportunities and resources they need to be successful. Here’s how We Care: We Collaborate with our community partners. We Connect the community’s generosity and resources with a child’s hopes and needs. We Create unique programs to help children thrive. We Care Foster Care believes in the fundamental desire on the part of our citizens to give generously and support the work of caring for all the children in foster care and the child protection system. We believe in the power of one individual to make a difference in the life of a child and imagine the unlimited power that could be harnessed if each individual donated their time, talent, and treasure to just one child in need. We believe that this power benefits not only the child it directly impacts, but also the lineage of that child moving forward in a life that is safe, abundant, and successful.

The need for foster families is immense. Thousands of children throughout Michigan are placed in foster homes as a result of abuse, neglect, or an overall lack of safety. Disrupted from all that is familiar, these children in care are truly at their most vulnerable. This is why loving foster parents make such a profound impact. Providing secure footing for a child whose circumstances feel so far out of their control will make a difference that lasts a lifetime, no matter how long the placement lasts. Away from their own home, a foster child always remains under the supervision of the Dept. of Health and Human Services. Because of this, a worker from the DHHS will make regular visits to all foster families. These visits act as a layer of support and safety for both the foster parents and for the child. During these check-ins, parents are expected to address any challenges they’ve encountered during the placement so far. The worker can then use this information to make decisions, provide resources to the family, or, if necessary, find a new placement for the child. If a family needs help, the DHHS will do what they can to provide it. Because when a family thrives, the child in their care is set up for success. Each of these 10,000 deserves safe, committed care and the opportunity to succeed. On such a large scale, this may seem like a daunting task. However, with enough people dedicated to the cause, it can be done. You can make an impact by partnering with us at We Care Foster Care. Here are three ways you can be involved: Financial Gifts - Provides programs, opportunities, and resources to foster children to help them thrive. Donation of Goods - Provides clothing, luggage, school supplies, household items, and more to foster families. In-Kind Services - Provides foster children and their families with resources like dental work, dance lessons, and plumbing repairs. This statistic is alarming, resulting in a new term, the “foster care to prison pipeline.” But rest assured, this data doesn’t predict the future for all children in care. In fact, other factors increase the likelihood that a foster youth will avoid arrest. According to a post by the Juvenile Law Center: Youth placed with foster families rather than group homes are 2.5 times less likely to be incarcerated. The fewer placements a foster child has, the less likely he is to enter the justice system. It’s clear that a safe, committed foster family plays a crucial role in a child’s ability to navigate the future. Perhaps your home could be the placement that keeps a child out of the prison pipeline. However, if foster parenting is not an option for you, consider supporting children and their families through We Care Foster Care. Find out how to help at https://loom.ly/_FjEl6Y.
