  • My partner Tyee Tilghman and I started the non-profit Wellbeing in Entertainment and Creative Arts, in 2022 as a direct response to the lack of mental health support in the entertainment industry. It's been an incredibly tough year for people in the industry, with strikes having shut down business for nearly a year. Needless to say, mental health support in the industry is needed now more than ever. Since 2022 we have been operating on a purely volunteer basis and have made some worthwhile progress. We have: 💫developed our mission, vision and values statements 💫updated our website 💫created our first asynchronous course 💫restarted our podcast It has been challenging, however, to do all of this without a budget, and for this reason, we decided we needed to start fundraising. Our vision for the WECA and the entertainment industry over the next year includes: 🎬Developing a trauma-informed care course for sets and stages 🎬Developing a support group for industry professionals to come together in community to discuss their challenges 🎬Continue to develop our online resource hub 🎬Continue to develop new toolkits, workshops, and trainings 🎬Begin developing a trauma-informed risk assessment tool that can be used on sets and stages to identify potential risk areas 📢Our five-year goal is to use our research and outcomes from our offerings to develop a Wellbeing Seal of Approval (similar to the No Animals Harmed Seal) for productions that demonstrate adherence to wellbeing guidelines that promote the health, safety, and wellbeing of all cast and crew. These goals and this vision can only grow with infrastructure that allows it to thrive. If you are able to make a tax-deductible contribution to support these efforts, we would be so grateful. You can donate now at https://lnkd.in/dvfC8gjf If you are not able to support the project financially, spreading the world is also incredibly helpful! Please consider sharing this post with anyone in your network who may be in a position to support, donate, or even collaborate. Thank you so much for your consideration!

📢Friends, we need your help! There is a critical need for entertainment worker-focused resources, training, and support. Lack of care is costing people their health, time, creativity, and even their lives. We are ready to build the first US-based platform for mental health & wellbeing resources with creative industries in mind. But we need your support. ✔✔✔ In the spirit of giving, this Giving Tuesday, please considering supporting WECA’s work. Your donation, regardless of size, will directly fund the development of our trauma-informed programs, workshops, and resources. Head to the link in bio or https://lnkd.in/gVDpey_E now. A lot of you I'm connected to on LinkedIn in and around LA don't work in the entertainment industry. But as one of the largest employment sources in our region, what affects entertainment workers affects us all. When tens of thousands of us in Southern California are struggling to find jobs and income that previously felt accessible, the economic AND (just as importantly) *mental/emotional impacts* of that will be experienced by everyone, even if secondhand. Appreciate this LA Times piece highlighting the psychological toll the lack of work can create, as a reminder that we are all connected and we all need to take care of each other. If you know someone in the entertainment industry struggling through this right now, Wellbeing in Entertainment and Creative Arts (WECA)'s new industry processing group can be a great resource: https://lnkd.in/gBNmgfDp https://lnkd.in/gARPU97c
