West Coast Solutions (WCS) is proud to support a local Huntington Beach-based charity, Robyne’s Nest. Robyne’s Nest provides at-risk and homeless students with little to no parental support with the resources to complete high school and pursue a path to self-sufficiency. They provide mental health care, safe housing, life skills and care, and basic needs to homeless teens. WCS recently donated some excess computer equipment to Robyne’s Nest to help them further their mission, and we encourage other businesses and our followers to do the same or look for other opportunities to support this worthy cause. To learn more about Robyne's Nest please visit them here. https://lnkd.in/gxYhMyh

About us
West Coast Solutions is a talented team of technical experts with the singular vision of optimally and synergistically serving the needs of the defense and advanced technology marketplaces. Delivering world class solutions requires achieving and maintaining a laser-like focus on all aspects of the customer’s needs, which necessarily spans all aspects of the supporting organization, not just engineering. West Coast Solutions understands this. Excellence is achieved by bringing all the right parties to the table, and most importantly, the varied perspectives they represent. Our founder’s career has included tours of duty within academia, a large business prime contractor, and several small businesses, providing our team with a uniquely broad insight into where the answers to the hard questions can best be found. The WCS Team brings proven expertise to: identify and procure (through invention or acquisition) the necessary critical technologies; build the right team for the job, drawing on our network of world-class talent; construct a realistic program plan that optimally balances risk, cost and schedule; execute all phases from concept design through prototype development and delivery. WCS leverages our core competencies in power electronics, alternative energy, and cryogenics to the immediate benefit of our customers. The key is our focus on niche needs best met by a small, agile operation. By focusing on consulting, design and rapid prototyping, WCS is available to provide an immediate “value add” to larger organizations, effectively becoming an extension of your team in an overall business construct. In complement to these design services, WCS is developing niche products to provide yet another “value add” proposition for the customers we serve. Congratulations to our friends at Bracken's Kitchen on a very successful (and fun and delicious) Hungry Games 7.0 fundraiser last week! WCS is proud to be annual sponsor of the event. For our LinkedIn friends out there looking for a great cause to support, we strongly recommend checking out Bracken's Kitchen. Whether your cause is feeding the hungry, helping folks who have struggled get their lives together, or being good stewards of our resources and the environment, this charity is for you - they do it all, they do it well, and they do it with love for the people and community they serve. You can find and connect with Bracken's Kitchen on LI! https://lnkd.in/gEKQZS9Q

West Coast Solutions (WCS) is proud to announce the award of a NASA Phase II SBIR award to fund the development and qualification of a radiation hard Flight Controller for the Sunpower Robust Stirling Convertor (SRSC). SRSC sets the industry standard for a high reliability, long life, efficient Stirling power convertor for space applications. SRSC is primarily targeted for pairing with radioisotope-powered thermal sources to generate power where solar flux is weak, or unavailable. Applications include deep space probes and lunar missions, among others. The WCS Stirling Convertor Space Controller (SCSC) will represent the first flight-qualified controller for the SRSC, finally making the outstanding SRSC technology available for space deployment. The funded 18-month effort will yield a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 flight-design engineering model in late 2025 following a robust series of planned environmental tests. WCS is already engaging with interested partners to get near term plans in place for flight production. Please contact us for more information and to discuss your application.

West Coast Solutions wishes James and Arcelia Davis a long and happy marriage. James has been with WCS for 4 years and always brings his full attention to working on our customers’ projects. If he is half as good at being a husband as he is at solving challenging engineering problems, he will be all set!

We are happy to have Fred as a part of the team! He brings tremendous experience and knowledge to West Coast Solutions.
I am happy to let my network now that I have teamed up with West Coast Solutions as a senior advisor to the leadership team. I plan on helping Carl grow this amazing company while smartly managing risk and expanding the customer base. With a background in engineering, operations and general management I am very excited to apply some knowledge to a very mature company with an eye-watering product line. They participate in a few specialties, including: radiation hardened for space electronic design and production services; space cryogenic design expertise; space focal plane system development; and high-power batteries for space. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any needs in these areas, and I can make the introduction. Www.wecoso.com

9 years! A bunch of us from West Coast Solutions gathered to celebrate our nine-year anniversary last week, reflect on our accomplishments to date, and talk about the huge things ahead in all our growing businesses – Cryogenics, Aerospace Electronics, and Power. Oh, and drink a little beer and eat a little pizza! Thanks to Julian Shrago and our friends at Beachwood Pizza & Beer for their hospitality and to DeEtte Kirkconnell for throwing yet another great party. Most of all, thanks to so many of you reading this post for helping make all this possible through your collaboration, words of encouragement, and friendship.

We are proud to be part of the Hinetics Team and look forward to continuing this important R&D in Phase II!
Last week, Hinetics enjoyed a visit from our ARPA-E Program Director, Dr. Peter De Bock, and Technology to Market Advisors, Drs. Xin Wu and Vivien L.. Hinetics PI, Thanatheepan (Theepan) Balachandran, and the team had the opportunity to update the ARPA-E team on the development of our CRUISE 10 MW direct-drive partially superconducting motor. In Phase I of the project, we have successfully de-risked multiple technical fronts, including validation of cryocooler performance while rotating at 125% of nominal speed in addition to MIL-STD-810 shock & vibe testing (with the aid of our partners at West Coast Solutions), full-scale armature module manufacturing, spoked rotor manufacturing and tensile stress testing, and low loss cryogenic rotor development. Dr. Balachandran is seen below showcasing a prototype full-scale armature module used for thermal testing at full electrical loading. The slotless armature module was constructed using our patent pending magnetics, insulation, and cooling architecture (MAGICA) developed with the support of NASA Glenn Research Center and our technical monitors Andrew Provenza and Thomas Tallerico. The team also demonstrated two full-scale mock rotors and accompanying experimental setups for separate structural and cryogenic thermal management validation. We thank the ARPA-E team for visiting us in Champaign and look forward to our continued collaboration in the development of the lightest weight, most efficient electric propulsion drive train for future electrified commercial aviation.
