We are proud to share Dr. Bub’s recent visit to Eagle High School’s Student Council, where he had a fantastic discussion with some of our district’s brightest student leaders! 🦅✨ The council shared their positive feedback on the new cell phone policy, highlighting how it’s fostering more face-to-face conversations. However, they also noted the challenge of pacing themselves during tests in classrooms without clocks. The students came up with a great solution: using Vivi to display timers in the classroom. 📵🕒💡 They also discussed the growing interest in school clubs and shared some creative ways they’re helping their peers navigate the new application process. 🙌 Dr. Bub and the students explored important topics, such as bathroom improvements, parking lot safety, and standards-based grading, showing just how dedicated these students are to academic excellence and school improvement. 👏 Here’s what Eagle High’s Student Council is currently working on: ✅ Club application reviews/approvals 🎃 Trunk or Treat on October 28th 💫 Make A Wish initiative 🎄 Winter Assembly 🩸 Blood Drive on December 3rd ⚡ Battle of the Bolt vs. OHS on January 9th We couldn’t be prouder of the leadership and initiative shown by Eagle High’s Student Council. Great things are happening in West Ada! #WestAdaProud #StudentLeadership #EagleHighSchool #InnovationInEducation

Had the pleasure of visiting Eagle High School’s Student Council today, and I couldn’t be more impressed with their leadership and creativity! 🦅✨ We had a fantastic discussion about how well the new cell phone policy is working—students are really enjoying more face-to-face conversations. However, they’ve encountered a challenge with pacing themselves during tests in classrooms that don’t have wall clocks. 📵🕒 They came up with a great solution: asking their teachers to display timers using Vivi. What an innovative approach! 💡 The StuCo members also shared how interest in school clubs is growing, but they’re navigating some challenges with the new club application process. Despite that, they’ve already come up with creative solutions to help their peers. 👏 We also had meaningful conversations about key areas for improvement like bathroom facilities, parking lot safety, and standards-based proficiency scale grading. (I loved hearing how focused they are on earning those As! 😄) Here are a few exciting projects they’re working on: ✅ Club application reviews/approvals 🎃 Trunk or Treat on October 28th 💫 Make A Wish initiative 🎄 Winter Assembly 🩸 Blood Drive on December 3rd ⚡ Battle of the Bolt vs. OHS on January 9th Proud of these students and their dedication to making Eagle High even better. Keep up the great work! #LeadershipInAction #StudentCouncil #WestAdaProud #EagleHighSchool #InnovationInEducation

Reminder: National Custodian Day is Tomorrow – October 2! Let’s take a moment to recognize the hard work and dedication of our amazing custodians who keep our schools clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone. From ensuring our classrooms are spotless to handling the unexpected with grace, these unsung heroes make our schools run smoothly every single day. Tomorrow, let’s come together to show them just how much we appreciate their efforts! Whether it’s organizing a small celebration, creating thank-you cards with your students, or simply offering a heartfelt “thank you,” your recognition will go a long way in brightening their day. 10 Ways to Celebrate Tomorrow: 1. Decorate the staff room with thank-you banners. 2. Have students write personalized thank-you notes. 3. Host a surprise breakfast or treat for your custodians. 4. Involve students in creating a video shoutout. 5. Make an announcement highlighting their contributions. 6. Put together a custodian appreciation gift basket. 7. Encourage teachers to share stories of how custodians have helped. 8. Create posters for hallways celebrating custodial staff. 9. Organize a group thank-you card from staff and students. 10. Give a simple but sincere thank-you in person! Today, I had the pleasure of visiting Renaissance High School and seeing all the incredible work the students are doing! The new "StuCo Room" is full of positivity and energy, complete with a "Board of Positivity" and Student Council Pennants 🏅✨. I was thrilled to learn that two-thirds of the students purchased tickets to Homecoming, setting a new record for participation! 🎉 The first-ever "Club Rush" was a great success, and the team is now working on bringing "Club Liaisons" together to meet with StuCo. I love the focus on more class competitions to boost school spirit and engagement 🙌. I also had the chance to hear about "Renaissance Reports," a student-led video announcement happening every Monday, which has been a huge hit 🎥. I’m really looking forward to watching the next one – I’ve already asked them to send me the link! 📧 What really stood out was the enthusiasm for building school spirit and creating partnerships with IFAA for intramural sports like kickball, volleyball, tennis, and pickleball 🏐🎾. I couldn’t help but laugh when I heard about the idea of a rivalry between RHS and IFAA – I coined it the "Battle of the Parking Lot!" 😂 Looking forward to seeing these amazing students continue to thrive! 🚀 #SchoolSpirit #StudentLeadership #StuCo #HOCO #RHSvsIFAA #LeadershipInAction #BuildingCommunity

Mental health and teacher retention have been topics of conversation across the country the past few years. We’re joined by a father and son teaching duo to discuss what they see in the profession and why they do what they do. Alan Heikkila is in his 37th year of teaching. He’s a West Ada Ag instructor focusing mainly on small engines. His son, Daniel, also teaches welding at Meridian High. You’ll be encouraged and perhaps surprised by some of what they reveal about teaching in Idaho.
