Today, history was made for San Antonio transit! VIA Metropolitan Transit was awarded a $268 million Full-Funding Grant Agreement from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the largest federal grant in VIA’s history. This funding will bring the VIA Rapid Green Line—the region’s first Advanced Rapid Transit (ART) corridor—to life.
The VIA Rapid Green Line will connect key areas like the San Antonio International Airport (SAT), Downtown, the historic Missions, and Brooks. Designed to move more people faster and farther, this project includes:
✅ Off-board fare collection for speedier boarding
✅ Level platform boarding for greater accessibility
✅ Synchronized traffic signals to reduce travel times
✅ Corridor-wide improvements to sidewalks, intersections, and drainage
Thanks to voters who approved the 2020 sales tax initiative, this project now has the critical funding needed for construction. With 54,000 residents and 108,000 jobs along the corridor, the VIA Rapid Green Line is a game-changer for San Antonio, connecting more people to jobs, education, health care, and entertainment.
