Where y'Art Works for Sonder Inc. When Sonder discovered their newly purchased building, a theater on Canal Street, housed the original Vitascope, they wanted to honor that in the artwork selections. We brought in artist Brent Houzenga to bring building's history and most notable face together with its new identity. When creating the series, Brent made one stencil and did several different variations using the same stencil, with varying degrees of abstraction - one portrait of Thomas Edison in four different ways. While Thomas Edison didn’t invent the motion picture or the projector, his company played a crucial role in making these technologies widely available, paving the way for the first motion pictures. Notably, many of the films shown in this theater originated from his groundbreaking studio, the first of its kind! Discover more of projects here: https://lnkd.in/g9xhJ2fk

Where y'Art Works for the Louisiana Department of Health In a mission to blend art, community, and healthcare, we partnered with the Louisiana Department of Health for the "Bring Louisiana Back" campaign, featuring "Sleeves Up: An Art Exhibit." We invited artists from all the major health regions across Louisiana to respond to the question: "What does bringing back Louisiana mean to you?" We even hosted an exhibit at the gallery that showcased all nine artworks, while The Community Health Hub offered essential services, including free masks, COVID-19 testing, antigen rapid testing, vaccinations, and COVID-19 prevention packs. "Being a visual artist, graphic designer, writer, and musician, my artistic expression moves into many arenas. With these visual representations of color and textures, it is my hope that you see something in these works that will cause you to stop for a moment to... Remember. Dream. Hope. Reminisce... then Dream again." -Ron Smith 📷: Henrietta Wildsmith/The Times @hanketta Discover more from Ron by clicking the link in bio!

Where y'Art Works for Hotel Indigo Hotel Indigo's newest installation is a nod to local culture. Parasol's have been a part of Baby Dolls and second line traditions in New Orleans for generations. Kari Lee, a Baby Doll for Big Chief Monk Boudreaux's Golden Eagles Mardi Gras Indian Tribe, came up with a design that reflects the top of Baby Doll parasols as they make their way through the streets of New Orleans. Where y'Art Works for Ochsner Health Michael R. Boh Center for Child Development is dedicated to improving the lives of children and adolescents with developmental disorders. Where y’Art Works teamed up with Ochsner's facilites planners and user group to consult and curate a series of murals for the space, with the goal of creating a warm and calming patient experience. Once a theme was established, we asked scenic painter, sculptor, float artist, Dana Buehler to imagine, design and execute an “Under the Sea” experience. Sculptural elements were used not only as a wayfinding feature in the clinic but also as playful elements for the kids experience. In addition, the staff was able to use these elements as a tool to measure developmental benchmarks. "What I love most about creating art, besides being such a healing factor in my own life, is providing more representation of women in the space. I am so grateful and heavily inspired by the local art community of New Orleans; without it, I wouldn't know what was possible for me." -Danielle Keys Currently on view, "Nelumbo" at The Where y'Art Works Gallery and "Hold the Vision, Trust the Process" at The Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery Discover more from Danielle by clicking the link: https://bit.ly/4g1aN8l

Where y'Art Works for Fidelity Bank Thanks to our friends at Trapolin-Peer Architects, APC, we began working with Fidelity Bank LA. In creative partnership, they looked to us to design an art program that would have legs through their expansion, centered around connecting local artists to individual branches, thoughtfully integrated with the communities they serve. At Fidelity Bank downtown headquarters, visitors are welcomed by 'Decatur Street After the Rain,' a piece by New Orleans artist Stephanie Reed. In addition, the open work areas and offices include works by local artists Nurhan Gokturk, Tish Douzart, and Vincente Weber. "Having several wonderful gay friends who are drag queens, I have been exposed to private dressing rooms before their show. Enamored with the dazzling two-hour transformations and impressed by the talent and dedication it took to create these costumes, I found a spark to represent this world in my ongoing series 'Painted Ladies' and 'Costumes and Queens'. My paintings explore the notion that gender is no longer black and white but an array of colors as expressed through the use of bright color schemes. My work showcases the fun in expressing oneself and toy with the concept of androgyny. I generally create my works based on imagination using ideas from memories, photos, or sights around the city." -Margaux Hymel Discover more from Margaux by clicking the link: https://lnkd.in/gudbww4n
