Did you know? At Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation’s Kendalia Sanctuary, we use about 4,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables every week! Because of the short shelf life of fresh produce, we’re always restocking to provide the highest quality nutrition and ensure no animal is ever given moldy or spoiled food. Your support makes this all possible! #WRRTX #WildlifeRescueandRehabilitation #SupportWildlife #WildlifeCare

To rescue, rehabilitate, and release native wildlife, and to provide sanctuary and a voice for other animals in need.
About us
Established in 1977, Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation (WRR) receives over 10,000 wild animals per year for rehabilitation and release as well as providing permanent sanctuary for more than 600 resident non-releasable indigenous wildlife, non-native wildlife (large mammals, primates, reptiles and birds) and farmed animals. Wildlife Rescue is located on 212 acres in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, near Austin and San Antonio. The Roger and Phyllis Sherman Animal Care Complex (SACC) is located in north central San Antonio. In addition, WRR offers assistance, on a limited basis, to homeless companion animals and feral cats and provides advice and assistance for dealing with human-wildlife conflicts in a nonlethal manner. WRR staff work to educate the public about more appropriate and respectful relations with nature and wildlife. Whether through training, education, advocacy, or direct animal care, WRR fulfills its commitment to wildlife protection and ethical, sustainable relations between humans and the natural world. Because of our commitment to respect the rights and needs of wildlife, the main WRR facilities and grounds are not open to the public.

As cooler temperatures approach, so does the temptation to attract or “help” wildlife through the winter by offering food. However, the risks to wildlife outweigh the benefits you may believe you are providing. Feeding wildlife, especially deer, can lead to dangerous habituation, illness, and even death. “Deer corn" isn’t just nutritionally poor—being low in protein and high in carbohydrates—it can also contain harmful toxins from fungal contaminants. In large quantities, its consumption can lead to debilitating hoof deformities and dangerous conditions like acidosis and enterotoxemia. Feeding deer often contributes to the development or worsening of food impaction and necrobacillosis, or “lumpy jaw,” which is characterized by swollen jaws or cheeks and necrotic lesions that make it difficult or impossible for the deer to eat. As you can see in the photo above, this condition can lead to emaciation and, sadly, death. While we understand that many people feed wildlife with good intentions, we implore you to consider the adverse consequences and remember that the best foods for wild animals come from their natural environment. #WRRTX #WildlifeRescue #WildlifeSafety #Deer #DeerCorn #TexasWildlife

A huge thank you to our September Volunteer of the Month, Ashley Sells! Ashley has been a long-time, dedicated WRR volunteer. Her commitment to helping wildlife shines through in everything she does, and she has become an outstanding mentor to new volunteers. Last month, Ashley devoted countless hours to helping the Sherman Animal Care Complex relocate to our new location, and her support has been invaluable. Thank you, Ashley! We’re incredibly grateful for your dedication — it truly makes a difference for the animals we care for every day. #volunteer #appreciation #dedication #wildlifevolunteer #wildliferescue

Urgent Action Needed to Protect Vital Forests! A new bill in Congress, the "Fix Our Forests Act,” could open the door to reckless logging, threatening some of America’s most cherished old-growth forests and the species that rely on them. If passed, this bill could result in unnecessary clear-cutting, destroying habitats for countless wild animals and rolling back protections for endangered species. This bill, up for a vote this week, would allow mass deforestation under the guise of fire prevention. We can't let it pass! Join WRR in speaking out to protect these forests and the animals that depend on them. Tell your U.S. Representative to vote NO on the "Fix Our Forests Act." Take action now — click the link below! https://bit.ly/3NgTDGR #WRRTX #WildlifeRescueandRehabilitation #ProtectOurForests #WildlifeProtection #ActNow

Join us in celebrating International Vulture Awareness Day! As we honor these remarkable birds, let's recognize their crucial role in maintaining ecological balance by feeding on carrion. Vultures in Texas face significant threats, including habitat loss and human persecution, impacting their populations and our ecosystems.
