About us
Our Vision Solving for Business: Because Business Drives Economic Growth and Social Freedom At the William Davidson Institute at the University of Michigan, unlocking the power of business to provide lasting economic and social prosperity in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) is in our DNA. We gather the data, develop new models, test concepts and collaborate with partners to find real solutions that lead to new opportunities. This is what we mean by Solving for Business—our calling since the Institute was first founded as an independent nonprofit educational organization in 1992. We believe societies that empower individuals with the tools and skills to excel in business, in turn generate both economic growth and social freedom—or the agency necessary for people to thrive. We endeavor to make this vision a reality by collaborating with local and multinational firms, University of Michigan scholars and enterprising students, as well as experts in a variety of fields. Our Consulting work focuses on developing, adapting and applying sound business principles in interrelated economic sectors that are essential for vibrant economies. Our Training programs incorporate the latest thinking in management education, consider the local context and help to shape learners into the global leaders of today and tomorrow. Through our unique blend of field-based experience and academic rigor, we help to build both resilient leaders and stronger businesses in low- and middle-income countries.

#Bahrain | New flyer! Mentorship drives success for MSMEs There's no substitute for a good mentor when launching and scaling a successful business. Discover how CIPE led a mentorship effort to empower small and medium-sized business owners economically. Key impacts and outcomes: ➡️ 62% of the 50 MSMEs that participated indicated increased growth in either revenue, sales volume, profits, employment, client base, or a combination of the above. ➡️ 28% of the 35 investors trained in the program were women. ➡️ 7 sectors represented by mentors, including consulting, manufacturing, technology, banking, and sports and fitness. The effort was part of the Economic Diversification and Access to Finance in Bahrain project, funded by the US-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI). CIPE partnered with Tenmou and the William Davidson Institute at the University of Michigan. #MENA #MSMEsector

#MondayMotivation if we ever saw one! 🔋
Hello 2️⃣ 0️⃣ 2️⃣ 5️⃣ ! This is a year to #build big, prioritize #learning and #growth, and #joinforces with others to go #farther, #faster. And I know #2025 will be anything but boring. Here are #️⃣six things I will be 👀 watching and diving deeper 🤿 into this year: ✖️ #Intersections: this is often where the most interesting work happens. In particular, I’ll be looking deeper at the intersections of #climate, #energy, #mobility, and #development. ⚖️ #Just #transition: what does it really mean? How has this been done in the past and how can we do better in the #future? 🌐 #Geopolitics, and #policy: #tariffs, #competitiveness, #China, #rippleeffects. Geopolitics will continue to impact everything else, whether we like it or not. 📈 Market #trends and #innovation: normal ups and downs, #electrification across segments, #consolidation, #new players and #tech. 🚗 ⚡#EVs as #national #emblems. #SaudiArabia has Ceer, #Turkey has Togg, and now #Mexico is joining the ranks of #countries developing their own #EV brands, with the Olinia México project. More will come, and I will be following closely. 🚀 Big #bets and surprise #shakeups in the broader #energy space: #Colombia’s quest to transition away from #fossilfuels, energy #companies' more aggressive pursuit of #diversification, the #rise and #fall of hyped up energy #solutions, and more. Follow me and reach out with ideas for collaboration, anytime 🙌🏽
