About us
The Wilmington Learning Collaborative (WLC) is a voluntary network of schools in Wilmington across multiple school districts. Currently composed of eight unique school communities representing three local public school districts, the WLC will serve approximately 3,000 students in grades PreK through 8th grade. The Collaborative’s goal is to create consistency for students, empower educators, school leaders, and communities, and improve outcomes for students in City of Wilmington schools. In the summer of 2023, the Council hired the inaugural Executive Director, Dr. Laura Burgos, to actualize the goal of the WLC. In the coming year, Dr. Burgos is looking to conduct a needs assessment of WLC schools and build a clear vision moving forward. She is establishing a leadership team that is equity-focused, future-oriented, and unapologetic in removing barriers to success for students and teachers. Her goal is to ensure that WLC schools have the resources, services, and relevant support needed to accelerate student achievement through investing in educator practice.

This week our Teacher Leadership Design Fellows attended the second monthly Community of Practice led by Jounce Partners. This was a professional learning experience in which each Teacher Leader selected one area in which to deepen their knowledge and plan for applying that knowledge to improved outcomes at their school. Areas of focus included mathematics and literacy instruction, classroom culture, and student engagement. We look forward to continuing the learning, development, and exploration process alongside our Teacher Leader cohort this year. #Wilmington Learning Collaborative #teacherleadership #collaboration #innovation #empoweredteachers #education #innovation #instruction #connectedschools #purposefulpartnerships #educatorpathways

I am back on Appian Way this week for the Harvard Strategic Data Project Cohort 16 Orientation. Today was filled with powerful learning centered on problem framing and root cause analysis. Many opportunities to reflect on the importance of asking actionable questions and fostering understanding through data communication. The Wilmington Learning Collaborative is thrilled to be partnering with the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University to use data to address root causes and prepare for the future. #Wilmington Learning Collaborative #Delaware #HarvardCEPR #SDPFellow #Cambridge #DataStrategists #TransformativeLearning

The Wilmington Learning Collaborative hosted our fall Educator Leader Team (ELT) Convening on Saturday, Oct 12 at the Delaware Art Museum. About 40 educators, including school leaders, from our partner schools gathered for a morning of learning focused on managing team conflict and leveraging the ELT Innovation Fund. Special thanks to all those who made space for community building. We were able to have lunch outdoors and provided childcare (with museum access) for all attendees. #connectedchools #Wilmington Learning Collaborative #education #professionaldevelopment #learning #managingconflict #teaming #community #Delaware

🎥 Following WLC's inspiring visit to the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta last May, Principal Tracey Roberts and her team have successfully launched the "House" model as part of their Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Kick-Off at Harlan Elementary School! MTSS is a valuable framework that helps schools provide targeted support to students in need. A huge shoutout to our MTSS Tier 1 Lead, Emma Cooper, and her amazing team for bringing this concept to life. The energy and enthusiasm from both staff and students have been incredible! . . . #WilmingtonLearningCollaborative #WLC #HarlanElementarySchool #MultiTieredSystemOfSupport #MTSS #StrongSchoolsStrongCommunity #WLCDE #WLCSchools #StudentsFirst #ConnectedSchools #PurposefulPartnerships #WLCWilmingtonDE #WLCExcellence #WilmingtonWill #WilmingtonDE
