Larry Curtis, President and Managing Partner of WinnDevelopment, recently discussed the pivotal project of his career in Affordable Housing Finance Magazine’s series, “The Development that Changed My Life." Starting his career with Winn in 1986, Larry assumed his current leadership role at WinnDevelopment in 2003. The redevelopment of Boott Mills in Lowell, MA, was the first historic adaptive reuse project that Larry pursued with Winn, transforming the long-vacant historic mill into The Apartments and Lofts at Boott Mills, a 154-unit mixed-income community. WinnCompanies is pleased to announce that Mission Main Apartments has been honored as the Preservation Winner in the 2024 Affordable Housing Finance (AHF) Readers’ Choice Awards! The 535-unit mixed-income community in Boston is undergoing an extensive 31-month redevelopment, scheduled for completion in spring 2025. The redevelopment aims to improve community safety and accessibility, upgrading kitchens, bathrooms, appliances, and windows in all units to create a more comfortable living experience for our residents. The winners of the Readers’ Choice Awards will be recognized at the annual AHF Live conference in Chicago in mid-November. In September, we celebrated the anniversaries of three thriving Winn-owned communities: Lockwood Plaza (23 years), Oliver Crossing (16 Years), The Tyler (4 years), The Preserve (3 years), and Mill Street Square (1 year). WinnCompanies, in collaboration with the Mary Ellen McCormack Task Force and the Boston Housing Authority, recently hosted the 2024 Unity Day celebration in Boston. This annual event celebrates the ethnic and generational diversity of the Mary Ellen McCormack (MEM) community, New England’s first public housing development, and one of the largest in the region. Attendees enjoyed family-friendly games and activities while learning about local community organizations. It was a wonderful day filled with fun and community building. Thank you to all the volunteers who make this event possible each year for the community! 

Our team at The Lofts at Osage Mill recently hosted their first outreach event to promote the lease-up of the new community. Thanks to the efforts of WinnDevelopment and its partners, the historic mill in Bessemer City, NC, is fast becoming The Lofts at Osage Mill, which will host 139 affordable apartments. The event was a resounding success, drawing interest from prospective and future residents eager to move in. Congratulations to The Lofts at Osage Mill team for engaging with the community!

The WinnCompanies Marketing team recently attended the Governor's Conference on Housing and Economic Development in Atlantic City, NJ. The event, which aims to foster a stronger, fairer, and more affordable state, attracts over 1,100 participants annually, making it the premier event for housing and economic development in New Jersey. Director of Marketing Amanda Lewis and Regional Marketing Manager Melissa Murphy attended as exhibitors, networking with attendees and sharing our company's mission of developing the best living communities for residents and clients. Our team members in Rhode Island proudly participated in the region’s annual WinnCares Day of Service, joining forces with P3 Providence Parks, Downtown Neighborhood Association, and the Providence Downtown Improvement District to beautify downtown Providence. The team spent the day cleaning up the streets and waterways and finished off the day with a team lunch! WinnCares supports our employees' involvement in charitable and volunteer activities to benefit the communities where they live and work. Our Boston team members are staying WinnFit, participating in the 10th annual Road to Wellness 5K Run and 2-Mile Walk (R2W), hosted by The Dimock Center, HoodFit and The Boston Athletic Association (BAA). The Road to Wellness Run/Walk promotes healthy habits and empowers community members to take manageable steps for long-term health and wellness while admiring the beautiful Roxbury neighborhood.
