This week, the Minnesota Legislature was back at full capacity – only to be cut short a mere 3(ish) days later with the resignation of Sen. Justin Eichorn (R-Grand Rapids). Timing has yet to be determined for the special election to replace him. Governor Walz was also back in the limelight, as he kicked off a national “townhall” tour of Republican Congressional districts. Walz’s townhalls have been offering voters an outlet to share their thoughts and concerns but have been met with mixed reviews at home. Hot topics in the Legislature this week include: • Representative Gottfried’s (DFL) win in the House 40B special election, and the return of the 67-67 party-line tie in the House; • February’s larger-than-forecasted revenue collections; and • Another ethics panel deadlock.
