Today, on World Mental Health Day, we at the WCAPS Mental Health Program want to recognize and honor the vital role Women of Color play in peace, security, and conflict transformation. Our strength, resilience, and the unique challenges we face place us in a powerful position—leading movements for peace while often bearing the weight of others' pain, without the space to tend to our own healing. The work of transforming conflict, rebuilding communities, and advocating for justice, all while carrying the emotional toll of systemic inequities, can profoundly impact our mental health. Our experiences, shaped by intersecting identities, influence our well-being in ways that are frequently overlooked or isolating. It is crucial to recognize that prioritizing our mental health is not only an act of resistance but also of empowerment. We deserve spaces where our voices, struggles, and joys are genuinely honored. On this day, let us remind ourselves that caring for our mental health is not just about survival—it's about thriving. Seek support, lean on your community, and remember that healing is your right. Your mental well-being is as important as the contributions you make to the world, and it's okay to seek peace, balance, and care on your journey.
