The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is expanding its use of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites because FRP is proven to have low life-cycle costs, while providing operational benefits for specific civil works infrastructure applications. Woolpert pulled its expertise across industries to support the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) in its development of a research roadmap that will aid in expanding the USACE’s use of FRP composites. This research roadmap focuses on reducing risk and expanding application of FRP in civil works infrastructure. The report also demonstrates the value of using FRP components for USACE infrastructure and provides an evidence- and risk-based decision framework that can assist in decision-making when replacing existing components. #FRP #USACE #infrastructure #research Jeff Lillycrop Kyle Baekey Michael Hanowsky, Ph.D. Tom Less, PE, SE Pat Plews Christina Parr

Our "What’s a Woolpert?" podcast for July provides a platform for a handful of our summer interns across industries to share what they expected of their intern experience, how it really went, and how their experience with Woolpert has helped shaped their career paths. “Early on, I was given some advice from one of the leadership here and basically they told me if you’re working for somebody and you couldn’t see yourself being that boss, then you’re not at the right place,” Architectural Design Intern Christopher Garcia said. “And something I can happily say is that I can see myself being that type of boss. The people here and the leadership here are not only exceptional, but they really care about the culture and do their best to make sure it grows.” #architecture #engineering #geospatial #AEG #WhatsAWoolpert Claire Ryan Haley Bloom Ethan Graham Daniel Michalec, GISP, PMP Ben Blumensheid

CEO Scott Cattran and Senior Vice President Shane Imwalle share their thoughts on everything from growing a global business to hiring to how Ohio can advance its business climate for our hometown business journal. "We need to back initiatives like Lt. Gov. Jon Husted’s InnovateOhio and programs like the Dayton Development Coalition and JobsOhio in their support of advanced manufacturing—data centers, chip fab, electric car batteries, etc.," Imwalle noted, specific to the Dayton region. "We need to fund applied research and emerging technologies that are being developed in Ohio." #economicdevelopment #innovation #datacenters Dayton Business Journal

“The hydrographic survey data collected under this contract adjoins bathymetric lidar data previously acquired by Woolpert in Tangier Sound,” Woolpert Project Manager Ryan Cross said. “This modern, high-resolution bathymetry will help improve the safety of vessel navigation within Tangier Sound, including the Nanticoke and Wicomico Rivers. We are pleased to be providing these surveys for the NOAA Office of Coast Survey throughout this important and interesting survey area.” #TangierSound #survey #hydrography #bathymetry #lidar NOAA Coast Survey David Neff, C.H. “The Esri User Conference never disappoints. Even as a longtime conference attendee, I am continually surprised by the uniqueness of geospatial solutions that Esri provides across a variety of industries,” Woolpert Geospatial Program Director Daniel Michalec, GISP, PMP said. “From contributing to special interest groups and presentations to socializing throughout the beautiful city of San Diego, this event reenforces our Gold Partnership with Esri and reinvigorates our shared commitment to bring the “where” to our clients.” Another incredible Esri User Conference in the books! #EsriUC2024 #Esri2024 Kim Hansen Buse Onen Amy Reese

What a finish to a big week! I’ve been at Esri User Conference in San Diego this week…first time! Was super honored to get accepted to display seven panels of my Woolpert cartography in the Esri Map Gallery. There’s a competition which I didn’t take very seriously until this morning’s announcements…I WON! First place for Map Series! This an OMG moment …and super sweet to get this late in one’s career.

In November 2022, residents in the City of Tucker, Georgia, voted to approve the creation of its public works department, which had to be fully functional by July 1, 2023, and ready to hit its many objectives. To ensure the new department was prepared to meet its goals, Tucker officials had to quickly identify, implement, and learn to use an asset management system and contracted Woolpert for help. Woolpert Lead Analyst and Reporting Subject Matter Expert Laura Burns, PE, IAM and Woolpert Project Manager and Technical Supervisor Annie Short GISP, IAM, PMP wrote an article explaining the discovery, implementation, and learning process.
