How can we increase student attendance for adequate instruction time? Ask a parent! This parent in one community in #Mozambique proposes solutions for reducing #absenteeism at a meeting organized by the USAID SABER program and local education specialists. SABER is supporting schools and communities to develop and implement district attendance action plans and use strategies like home visits to encourage school retention. The team is assessing the quality of the action plans and using a digital tool to analyze the strategies and sitting down with school councils to make improvements where needed.

💭 Interesting findings from this JSI study! Changes in home care and play practices for children aged 0-23 months after parents received counseling in responsive care and early learning (#RCEL) increased #earlylearning opportunities at home and improved complementary feeding practices. This period of a child's life is crucial for healthy development and interventions like this can help parents provide the holistic care they need.
🔊 New publication! We are excited to announce a new manuscript featuring a study we conducted through USAID Advancing Nutrition! The study assessed changes in home care and play practices for children aged 0 to 23 months after family members participated in facility- and/or community-based counseling on responsive care and early learning (RCEL)—two components of nurturing care that children need to grow and develop optimally. This counseling, supported by a newly developed RCEL Addendum package (link below), was integrated with existing nutrition and health service delivery platforms in the Kyrgyz Republic. 📈 Key Results: - Increased RCEL practices and early learning opportunities at home - Reduced parenting stress - Improved complementary feeding practices Importantly, the study showed that integrating RCEL counseling with nutrition services was feasible, did not disrupt nutrition service delivery, and has the potential to support both nutrition and early childhood development. This study adds critical evidence to efforts to strengthen nurturing care services and provide holistic support for young children to grow and develop optimally. 📖 Check out the full publication for more insights! https://lnkd.in/gT-6K_v7 For more information about the new RCEL Addendum package, visit https://lnkd.in/grBa_BEe #EarlyChildhoodDevelopment #RCEL #IYCF #SocialAndBehaviorChange

Since 2019, we've partnered with Adobe to advance digital text #readability. In the #US, we field-tested Liquid Mode to improve the delivery of crucial information for adult learners. With the success of this effort, we tested the use of Liquid Mode for health workers in #Malawi. Now, we're working with JSI | John Snow India Pvt. Ltd. (JSIPL) to develop health media for childcare workers using Adobe Express. Through each of these initiatives, we've seen how digital readability can enhance education, health, and #digitalequity: https://brnw.ch/21wNGrj

In #Mozambique, the USAID SABER program is promoting #girlseducation by working to reduce absenteeism. We're supporting districts to develop attendance action plans to identify causes of dropouts and #absenteeism. School councils and community members come together to organize solutions and accountability for improving student attendance and reducing learning loss. We've supported over 1,500 schools to create plans, and trained over 2,400 school councils to respond. Interventions like these ensure girls can focus on their studies and achieve their goals. #DayoftheGirlChild #GirlsVoicesMatter

Filled with information to share with caregivers of children and adolescents living with #HIV, job aids are crucial for community case workers in #Malawi. Maintaining and updating paper job aids is expensive and logistically challenging, though, so we set out to digitize them. By introducing Adobe Liquid Mode, a tool that helps users engage with digital text in PDFs, we supported case workers to improve access to #digitalhealth materials for those who need it most. This effort showed the potential of Liquid Mode to enhance both digital and #healthequity in communities. Learn more about how we’re easing the delivery of health information: https://brnw.ch/21wNDHH

As devices get smaller, reading digital media has become more challenging. Liquid Mode, a feature of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader app, aims to solve that. Drawing on #AI, Liquid Mode reflows digital text in PDFs to make it easier to read on mobile devices. With Liquid Mode: 1️⃣ Users do not have to manually manipulate PDFs by pinching and zooming in order to read the text. 2️⃣ PDFs are organized into expandable sections, allowing users to more easily navigate the document. 3️⃣ Readers have control over font size and letter and line spacing to personalize the text. At World Ed, we’ve been using Liquid Mode to support #readability worldwide – from adult education to health equity. Learn more about Liquid Mode: https://brnw.ch/21wNC2b

Ensuring access to education for all children regardless of gender requires shifting perceptions and behaviors. Understanding the social norms that lead to the exclusion of girls from educational opportunities allows us to find community-driven solutions. In #Ghana, where girls are often expected to care for the home and family, we organized community gatherings to spark discussions on gender equality and generate support for #girlseducation. We incorporated the Ubuntu philosophy to encourage communities to embrace the value of education by showing how girls’ education contributes to community well-being and stability. https://lnkd.in/gmU7C6_t #DayoftheGirlChild #EducationforAll #SBC #GirlsVoicesMatter
