We love it when our team shares recruiting tips! Read some thoughts from Elizabeth Pucci on how to best prepare for an initial interview.
A friend of mine is in the job market and asked me what she should get out of the call with a recruiter or an initial call with a hiring manager. Here’s my take ⤵ ▶ Two Key Questions for a Successful Call: A. Is there enough interest in the role/company on your end to move forward? B. Is there enough interest on the recruiter/hiring manager's end to move you forward? ▶ How to Nail It: Come prepared: Spend 15 minutes researching. Be ready to answer "Why are you interested in X Company?" Craft your elevator pitch: Tailor a concise overview of your background to the job description. For engineers: Highlight 2-3 projects that showcase relevant skills (e.g., scalability, specific languages/frameworks). Know your priorities: Whether it's compensation, mission, or building something from scratch, be clear about what drives you. Ask strategic questions: For engineers: "What's the tech stack?", "How does the team handle technical debt?", "What's the development process like?" General: Inquire about company culture, growth opportunities, and team dynamics. Close the loop: Circle back to questions A and B. If it's a mutual "yes," get clear on next steps.
