About us
We demonstrate a commitment to elevating our professionalism as well as gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to help growers produce economical and environmentally sound crops. NITROGEN MANAGEMENT The California State Water Resource Control Board recognizes CCAs as professionals qualified to develop and to sign off on the critical Irrigation and Nitrogen Management Plans (INMPs). Groundwater coalitions and growers depend on CCA advice to protect groundwater and to sustain prosperity. CONTINUING EDUCATION CCAs are challenged to meet strict continuing education requirements. They have to accrue over 40 hours every two years and meet minimum requirements in a range of categories including the management of nutrients, soils, water, crops and pests. TESTING With help from University of California experts, the WRCCA produces its own certification exam and study guide for local CCAs. This rigorous exam focuses on regional issues pertinent to arid soils and specialty crops. We work diligently to verify that the exam passes only highly qualified professionals. STUDENT OUTREACH Advisers are becoming ever more important to the agriculture industry. Tomorrow’s professionals are in school today. WRCCA has several student outreach initiatives which raise program awareness, guide students towards the right coursework and establish mentoring relationships.

California is home to approximately 3.8 million acres of trees and vines (grapes and kiwi) grown throughout the state. Pistachios, lemons, grapes, peaches, almonds, cherries and many other perennial crops thrive in California because of our Mediterranean-like weather that exists throughout the great Central Valley and the micro-climates found along the coast. However, it takes more than great weather to grow premium nuts and fruits. Growers must select the right nutrient source, determine the appropriate rate for the estimated yield, and identify the correct placement and timing so that fertilizers are utilized by the crop and not wasted. Potassium is one of the most important macro nutrients needed by perennial crops because it helps move sugars and starches to the maturing nuts and fruits thus improving yield and crop quality. Additionally, potassium is important in minimizing abiotic plant stress like drought by regulating stomatal activity, which helps plants adapt to water shortages.
