With great excitement, I am proud to announce the inaugural edition of NEXUS: SF/Bay Area Black Art Week—A week-long celebration dedicated to highlighting and honoring the vibrant talent and innovation of the Black artist community in the San Francisco Bay Area and around the world.
In my recent interview with Jori Finkel for The New York Times, I had the honor of presenting and discussing Museum of the African Diaspora's latest initiative.
I believe that now, more than ever, it is crucial to build a unified Bay Area art scene. My goal with NEXUS is not only to celebrate the rich Black art landscape in the Bay Area but also to foster collaboration and create lasting connections that will strengthen and sustain our Black artistic communities for generations to come.
As a native San Franciscan, I often reflect on the deep influence the Black community has had on the Bay Area’s art, music, and culture. Through NEXUS, my goal is to highlight the importance of our Black community, culture, and history, positioning the SF Bay Area as a beacon for Black artists. Together, we have the power to make the Bay Area a leading force in the art world, honoring the contributions and talents of our communities.
