🎒 With the back to school season fully underway, we caught up with Dan, former 5th grade tech teacher turned Product Manager at Yeti Confetti Kids!
⏪ Throwback to teaching days: Creativity and critical thinking were always hallmarks of Dan’s lessons, and he emphasized that, “it’s important to understand the technology, not just be a user.” Dan helped kids build up computational thinking skills using tangible tools like blocks and Legos and develop if/then statements from their observations. Every semester, Dan assigned a final project that was a way for students to infuse their own interests, personalities, and unique perspectives into their interactive vision in Scratch. Kids put their own spin on their self-designed games, mazes, and puzzles — and learned a lot about themselves as learners in the process!
⏩ Fast forward to today: Teachers wear a lot of hats, and who better to support educators than someone who has been in the classroom himself? At Yeti Confetti Kids, Dan is able to scale this transformative power of technology to have a big impact on kids outside of the classroom. Coming from his own experience as an immigrant and his work with multilingual students, Dan understands both the power of personalized, multilingual supports as well as how isolating learning can be without them. Yeti Confetti gives students the supports they need to learn in the ways that are best for them and gives teachers supportive tools to teach diverse classrooms. Dan wanted to “build something that disrupts education” in ways that allow teachers and students to problem solve and collaborate effectively.
As former teachers, current parents, and early childhood champions, our team is committed to making learning better for everyone, and we like to have fun while doing it! Leave any questions you have for Dan, Simon (his cute dog), or the rest of the YCK team in the comments!
