About us
The Y is Seattle’s founding nonprofit organization, offering health, hope, and opportunity. The mission of the Y is to build a community where all people, especially the young, are encouraged to develop their fullest potential in spirit, mind and body. We are an inclusive organization of men, women and children with a shared commitment to nurture the potential of youth, promote healthy living, and foster social responsibility. At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. We work side-by-side with our neighbors throughout King and south Snohomish counties to help kids and families thrive – and apply their positive behaviors and goals at home, school, the workplace, and beyond at our 13 branches, 2 overnight camps, 10 swimming pools, and more than 200 program sites.

The Rising Cost of Insurance is Putting Nonprofits at Risk – What It Means for the Y and Our Community Nonprofits across our region are facing an escalating challenge – rising insurance costs and limited coverage options are putting essential community programs at risk. The Puget Sound Business Journal is highlighting this critical issue and what it means for organizations like the Y. While we have temporarily secured coverage to continue operating key programs, the larger insurance crisis remains. Without long-term insurance reforms and solutions, vital services that support youth and families could be at risk. We are actively working with policymakers, community leaders, and partners to find sustainable solutions that protect the future of these programs. Read more here https://bit.ly/4bQ1WET

When a Y foster family took in a young child for a short-term placement, they thought their role would end when he returned home. But four years later, they’re still a part of his life—picking him up from school, staying in touch with his mom, and even becoming his godparents. Fostering isn’t just about providing care—it’s about building connections that last a lifetime. Read their inspiring story and learn how foster parents play a crucial role in strengthening families. https://bit.ly/4h4lgzl #fostercarefriday
