Fresh review concludes an improvement in cognitive function after MBS, as well as structural changes in the brain, dependent on weight loss. MBS results in response inhibition following presentation of high-energy food cues after surgery. Changes in brain activity occur in several regions involved in inhibition and executive control, especially in regard to areas where reward mechanisms are located. These changes translate in mild improvements in depression, anxiety, nonnormative eating behavior, and attention, with little to no change in memory or executive function.
