🌟 The Power of Violence Prevention 🌟 This recent Oaklandside article highlights the incredible impact of Youth ALIVE!’s Teens on Target (TNT) program, which is helping transform the lives of young leaders in City of Oakland. Programs like TNT are crucial—they don’t just change lives, they often save lives by empowering youth to break cycles of violence and build safer communities. It's for reasons like this, and more, that voting #YESonMeasureNN is so important. Supporting violence prevention programs ensures a safer future for all of us. Preventing violence and training youth leaders.
About us
Since 1991, as mentors, youth leaders, counselors, case managers, intervention specialists and violence interrupters, we at Youth ALIVE! have worked to help violently wounded people heal themselves and their community. Our mission is to prevent violence and create young leaders. We believe that young people growing up and going to school in the city’s most violent neighborhoods, possess the power to change the city for the better. We meet our clients where they are, at home, in school, at the hospital bedsides of young shooting victims, on the streets of our most dangerous neighborhoods. Youth ALIVE! saves lives though violence prevention, intervention ,and healing. IMPORTANT: Ballots were mailed today. 1)Measure NN will be the single most important source of funding for violence prevention programs in Oakland for the next 9 years. 2)If Measure NN does not pass, Oakland will lose millions of dollars in funding for essential violence prevention, intervention, and healing programs like Youth ALIVE!’s Caught in the Crossfire, Violence Interruption, and Khadafy Washington homicide response program, meaning thousands of Oakland victims will lose critical support to prevent and help heal from violence. 3) Additionally, Measure NN will fund a comprehensive public safety approach to improve 911 response and support violence prevention programs that serve youth and victims of violence crime to ensure Oakland will have an all hands on deck approach to creating real community safety. As Oakland heals from a historic spike in violence, now is the time to double down on our investments in public safety to effectively continue the double digit percentage reduction in shootings and homicides we are experiencing right now. Youth ALIVE!’s life-saving programs are made possible through previous Measure NN funding initiatives. That’s why we need voters to recognize the incredible opportunity Measure NN will provide to invest in real community safety by increasing support for proven violence prevention programs like Youth ALIVE!’s that keep our youth out of jail and off the streets, connect community members with employment assistance, help Oakland high schoolers graduate, and provide critical mental health services to victims and survivors of violence. One of the most important ways you can give to Youth ALIVE! is to make sure Measure NN passes. Calls to action: *Show your support with a lawn sign! Coordinate with Alia Glover aglover@youthalive.org to pick up a lawn sign at Youth ALIVE!’s offices (or have one delivered to your residence) *Share with your neighbors and networks in Oakland why funding Youth ALIVE! through Measure NN is important to you. https://lnkd.in/gxccCy8q

Our visionary leader Joseph Griffin, DrPH on how we can prevent gun violence with health-focused solutions. Watch and share.
“Addressing gun violence as a public health issue requires that we … start figuring out, why are people even experiencing violence in the first place, and are there conditions and factors that we can address that help prevent this from happening?” – Joseph Griffin, DrPH, executive director, Youth ALIVE! We can prevent gun violence with health-focused solutions.
