I've been itching to register for PyCon US. Just my luck that PyCon US 2025 has officially launched! Stoked to see that Jon Banafato of PyGotham (one of my all-time favorite conferences) will be joining as future conference chair. Congrats to DjangoCon US website partner YupGup for implementing the PyCon US site design. Looking forward to Pittsburgh 2.0! https://lnkd.in/gjXMjVEU

Moodboards are weird. They can be very time-consuming but often mostly feel important in terms of ruling *out* potential directions over establishing one to follow. Depending on the brand's personality, I've found I can reuse some of these between projects with minor tweaks. The result is always unique, but I haven't found a better way when tackling visual design to rule out aesthetics that the client just doesn't like. And if they do like a potential direction, it's a great jumping-off point for iteration and customization. One day, I'll create a library of these to parse by keyword. You know, eventually. Maybe...😜

Oh my, it's finally Friday. Feels like an even greater accomplishment this week than others somehow. I *love* my Friday work schedule. I set this day aside for internal work only, so all things YupGup and Wiggle Work. We have our weekly Wiggle Work coffee chat today and a newsletter out tomorrow, I'm working on content for the new YupGup site, and writing some letters just to say "Hi, friend!" to some of my favorite people. Even the "boring" stuff is fun on Fridays–research around tools, updating process documents, and bookkeeping. Since I learned to optimize this particular day for peace and quiet and tangible logistics over high-level thinking type of work, I've been able to enjoy weekends and even Mondays more since I'm perfectly positioned to hit the ground running. Fewer instances of Sunday Scaries for sure. Happy weekend and if you're a Wiggler I hope to see you at noon!

Putting a proposal together, and I have to admit, I love the challenge. While I advocate for reviewing on a call, I always pass the proposal along first. This ensures no one feels put on the spot. They have time to process it, get questions together, and get to know me a bit if they don’t already–leading to more enjoyable and productive calls when the time comes. In considering the entire experience of these, I’ve found a presentation format to be most effective. I have the space I need to introduce myself and YupGup, speak to our process and what to expect, highlight similar projects, timeline and budget, AND incorporate the necessary design elements to ensure it’s easy to review, informative, and enjoyable–photos, white space, links, iconography, visual representations for things like timelines and deliverables. These proposals are design projects in themselves. While time-consuming, you’re instilling trust and excitement and have set up a roadmap to hit the ground running with. Potential clients should have a strong sense that you understand the problem and are the right person to fix it. OH, and always include an expiration date 😅
