Eliminating racism; empowering women
About us
YWCA Greater Pittsburgh is dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering women. We envision a community that advances education, opportunity, and equity regardless of gender, race, or background. We accomplish this vision by providing direct services, empowerment programming, and advocacy to support marginalized individuals and families, especially women and girls of color, while working to challenge structural barriers to equity.

Last month, YWCA Greater Pittsburgh and Family Resources Pittsburgh staff gathered to celebrate Lights on Afterschool! The youth and caregivers of Family Resources Homewood North were able to experience coding first-hand by using Spheros, Coding Critters, and Finch. We all had a wonderful time! Thank you to the Women's Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh and Standing Firm for hosting the powerful 2024 Supporting Survivors Summit last month. The Summit explored emerging issues around the topic of domestic violence, ignited discussions, and helped to shape a future of empowerment and support. YWCA Greater Pittsburgh CEO Dr. Angela Reynolds spoke with Megan Rose, Program Director of Standing Firm, while attending impactful sessions on the medical, economic, and legal aspects of cultivating a climate for survivors to heal and thrive. YWCA GP board member Dr. Maya Indira Ragavan, Associate Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Research at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Pediatrics, also hosted a critical session on "Emerging Research, Accelerating Practice in Healing-Centered Engagement." Thank you to the hosting organizations and speakers for creating this incredibly necessary space. 🧡

They tried to bury us, they didn't know we were seeds. 🌷 Our Unite to Heal PA team is currently reading and enjoying the book "Healing Justice Lineages" by Cara Page and Erica Woodland, and a recent chapter reminded us of this beautiful quote. 🧡📖 "In this anthology, Black Queer Feminist editors Cara Page and Erica Woodland guide readers through the history, legacies, and liberatory practices of healing justice—a political strategy of collective care and safety that intervenes on generational trauma from systemic violence and oppression."
