Mass timber has proven to be a reliable and durable material for buildings, yet it remains underutilized in healthcare settings. ZGF and Swinerton, along with an expert team of consultants set out to study the current barriers to mass timber in healthcare and compiled a report exploring solutions with a proof of concept for a mass timber hospital. https://bit.ly/48qFZum Timberlab, Degenkolb Engineers, Arup, University of Oregon Institute for Health in the Built Environment, PeaceHealth, KPFF Consulting Engineers, Jensen Hughes, Pierce McVey AIA, LEED AP

Our practice connects communities and is committed to the stewardship of place, people, and the environment.
About us
With our origins in Oregon, attention to craft and beauty is elemental to the ZGF culture. A deep respect for the built environment evolved from reverence for the surrounding natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest landscape and a commitment to stewardship of the natural environment. Rather than reflecting a signature style, our work is derived from the particulars of the climate, context, and the human experience. The instinct to build community, making places where people come together for a common purpose, is central to our work. Evolving from a single office with strong regional roots to a firm with seven offices across North America and 750+ staff, ZGF's national reputation was honored with the American Institute of Architects' Architecture Firm Award, recognizing the firm’s “high standards, humanistic concerns, and unique ability to capture the spirit of a place and the aspirations of its inhabitants.”

The last piece of steel was placed on top of California Science Center's rising Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center last week. Marking the completion of the steel diagrid—the 20-story structural framework that enables unobstructed views of space shuttle Endeavour—this feat of engineering is a solution that supports both the complex geometry of the architecture and the visitor experience. https://bit.ly/3YcgJmO
