We’re passionate about teaching young people about the perks and pitfalls of credit — especially as a growing number of Americans are falling behind on their credit card payments and credit card debt stands at an all-time high.

It's really quite odd when you think about it — handing out checks with your name, address and account details. Time to rethink. Use digital payments for safer transactions when possible. #PracticeSafeChecks Can't pay digitally? Get tips for using checks safely: https://aba.social/4dvdSvE

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Private Banking relationship manager Adam Velasquez participated on a panel sponsored by Idaho State University’s TRIO Student Support Services. “Sabor de Herencia: Pathways to Success” featured Velasquez as well as Monica Cervantes of Idaho National Laboratory, veteran and McNair scholar Abraham Ruvalcaba, Conectate CEO Maria Alvarez and Galo Albor of Idaho Environmental Coalition. “It was great to share my story and ways I found the success I have been able to enjoy in my life,” Velasquez said. “It was even better to hear the other panelists share their stories and how they overcame so much adversity. Seeing the young Hispanic students in attendance was fantastic and made the event so rewarding to be a part of!” #HispanicHeritageMonth #SiSePuede #ZionsCareers #YouBelongHere

Technology can’t always beat a human connection. Just ask d’Andra Cahill, owner of Boise’s Dog Retreat Center. As an entrepreneur who has attended many small business workshops, Cahill has long heard about the importance of having a relationship with a banker but thought it was an antiquated notion. When the COVID-19 outbreak began to impact the business, however, she was grateful for the proactive efforts taken by her Zions Bank relationship manager. With the banker’s help, Dog Retreat Center was approved for a PPP loan in the first round of funding, and four years later, Cahill is looking to expand the business to a second location. We’re proud of Deneen May, Western Idaho Region president, for being honored as one of the Idaho Business Review’s “Women of the Year.” She was recognized for helping to shape Idaho’s economic and community well-being through her outstanding leadership, mentoring efforts and community involvement. Because May previously received the Women of the Year award in 2016, she is now a member of the prestigious "Circle of Excellence." Other career highlights include being named 504 Lender of the Year by Capital Matrix in 2015 and contributing to Zions Bank’s recognition as 504 Bank of the Year. May serves on the boards of directors of Capital Matrix and the Idaho Bankers Association in the Treasurer role, and actively participates in financial literacy programs and service projects with The Idaho Foodbank and other nonprofits. Congratulations, Deneen, and thanks for all you do for our clients and communities!
