Vice President for Institutional Advancement & Executive Director of the Foundation at St. Petersburg College

Responsible for accounting and business management functions of the SPC Foundation, including all aspects of reporting, tracking, banking and investment of funds for this direct support organization of the College.

Typical Essential Duties

 

·       Primary responsibility for preparing and maintaining all financial accounting records of the Foundation in full compliance with all applicable Federal and State regulatory requirements; 

·       Prepare annual financial statements and supplementary information; 

·       Interface with College departments regarding funding and disbursement for scholarships, programs and various College initiatives; 

·       Prepare annual Foundation budget; 

·       Manage all daily financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivables; 

  • Manages cash flow requirements and reporting;
  • Manages tax and compliance requirements;
  • Serves as staff liaison to the Foundation Board and to its Finance and Investment Committee;
  • Tracks and reports progress toward annual goals;
  • Implements and maintains a system of internal controls and security over all financial transactions and assets. Follows standard accounting practices and procedures;
  • Works with external auditors in the annual review, providing reports, data and assistance as needed;
  • Tracks and reports contributions to be matched by corporations, foundations and the State of Florida and assures that all requirements for spending and reporting are met;
  • Works with the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid and Business Office staffs to bill and pay awards, financial grants and scholarships in a timely manner;
  • Maintains up-to-date records for all Foundation funds, i.e., Endowed Scholarships, Faculty Chairs, Distinguished Teaching Chairs, et al;
  • Works with donors and prospective donors regarding the criteria and financial aspects of their gifts.


The classification is responsible for performing complex professional accounting transactions and reporting that requires the application of general accounting principles. Responsibilities may include developing project or department budgets; interpreting grant and contract regulations and their relation to College accounting procedures; preparing financial statements and reports for internal and external audiences; researching the source and cause of discrepancies in accounting systems; maintaining the integrity of accounting systems; developing financial projections based on previous activity; and preparing and approving journal entries and financial transactions. Incumbents may act as a lead to lower level accounting staff.

 

Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, business or in a related field to assigned area; must be a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Florida.

Experience:

Five (5) years experience in the accounting or auditing field preferably within a Development/Foundation/Fundraising organization.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

  • Financial systems;

  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
  • Applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines;
  • Account reconciliation methods;
  • Financial recordkeeping techniques;
  • Account preparation, review, and control methods;
  • Mathematical principles;
  • Computers and related software applications.

Skills:

  • Modifying and maintaining financial systems;
  • High degree of accuracy and organization;
  • Analyzing financial information and drawing valid conclusions;
  • Applying GAAP principles;
  • Preparing comprehensive financial reports;
  • Reading, analyzing, verifying, reconciling, and approving accounting transactions;
  • Gathering, analyzing, and evaluating financial data and making recommendations;
  • Researching and correcting discrepancies;
  • Using a computer and related software applications;
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.
