We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated individual to support the accounting function within The Independents Group, based in New York. The Accounting Assistant will assist the finance team with various accounting and administrative tasks, primarily focusing on the Events Production business unit. The successful candidate will support financial operations, maintain accurate records, and ensure smooth financial processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions, is essential.


The responsibilities of the Accounting Assistant include, but are not limited to:


  • Assisting with client invoicing for Events Production projects.
  • Supporting the creation and maintenance of vendor records in the accounting system.
  • Reviewing vendor documentation, being familiar with W-9 and W-2 forms.
  • Booking a high volume of vendor invoices.
  • Recording Cash Disbursement and Cash Receipt Journals specific to Events Production.
  • Assisting with the management of credit card transactions and receipts, particularly with American Express.
  • Supporting the oversight of employee out-of-pocket expenses related to Events Production projects.
  • Assisting with Amazon and Uber expense reports related to Events Production.
  • Supporting detailed budget project reconciliation for Events Production.
  • Assisting in the month-end closing process, including journal entry preparation and related analysis of asset, liability, revenue, and expense accounts.
  • Providing general administrative support to the accounting team.
  • Maintaining ongoing relationships and resolving discrepancies with clients, vendors, and teammates within the Events Production unit.
  • Collaborating with senior accounting staff to develop financial strategies and plans.


REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE


  • Associate's degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of related work experience.
  • Experience with NetSuite is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including revenue recognition, deferred revenue, and accruals.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP, pivot tables, SIM IF, and basic functions.
  • Basic knowledge of financial statements, including Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss, and Cash Flow.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
