  • This is a remote position.

The starting base salary range for an Actuary is is $87,000 to $166,000.  Actual salaries will vary by geographic location and are based on factors such as candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, competencies, and company tenure & equity. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan based on company performance and individual performance.

Actuary Overview

Develop complex actuarial models.  Project financial results based on best available assumptions, experience, and business acumen.  Develop premium rates based on a deep understanding of inherent risk, product feature, risk, historical experience, and market realities.  Develop assumptions based on experience and market realities. Clearly communicate findings to multiple audiences.  

Essential Duties

  • Perform advanced actuarial analysis with limited supervision
  • Clearly communicate complex actuarial issues to a variety of audiences 
  • Develop and justify business recommendations based on your research
  • Lead cross functional teams in complex actuarial initiatives
  • Supports the development of state and federal rate filings and manual rates
  • Assists designing and pricing products
  • Supports rating system development and develop pricing tools used by underwriters to improve pricing accuracy and efficiency
  • Mentor and or manage less experienced staff as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency with SQL and VBA
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex actuarial concepts and business recommendations to senior leaders and other teammates
  • Ability to develop premium rates using a broad understanding of regulations, experience, and market realities
  • Ability to conduct complex actuarial analysis and forecasting with broad awareness of the business, insurance market, competitive landscape, and regulatory environment

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, Computer Science or related field
  • 7 years of related actuarial experience in group life, disability, and supplemental products
  • ASA (Associate) in the Society of Actuaries designation
  • Membership in the American Academy of Actuaries
  • Currently compliant with continuing education requirements

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries
  • 10 years of related actuarial experience
  • Seniority level
