Application Integration Architect

Location: Dallas, TX or Akron, OH

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Architect reports directly to the Director of Data & Architecture and is responsible for driving out integration patterns between applications and overseeing the development of interfaces leveraging these patterns. The architect needs to have a strong development background and be able to support the entire application development lifecycle. The successful candidate will understand primary integration patterns within batch, synchronous and asynchronous integration styles and be able to oversee end to end development, error handling and implement and enforce strong development standards. As Signet is developing applications and integrations within AWS, the integration candidate must have strong skills and deep experience building within a structured AWS framework. The architect will provide recommendations and direction for future integration and architecture to the director of enterprise architecture so that comprehensive and strategic recommendations and planning can be developed and communicated to the business decision makers.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee the development of interfaces leveraging existing patterns within our AWS accounts
  • Support developers to ensure that they are building integrations using standards and build not just for positive testing but all negative testing as well
  • When existing architectural patters don’t support new integrations, make recommendations for leveraging AWS services to formulate new patterns
  • Assist in keeping all strategic architecture plans and documentation updated and current.
  • Develop, review, maintain, advocate, and own a set of architecture documents, plans, and roadmaps.
  • Oversee the development and transition of rundocs to the support team
  • Participate in tactical problem resolution of critical systems and interfaces – including participation in crisis management analysis and recommendations.
  • Participate in technical and architecture activities to ensure that decision making considers the entire enterprise's goals and needs. This includes, but is not limited to Architectural Review Board (ARB) reviews and follow-up monitoring of project design and delivery activities.
  • Proactively identify and manage inter-project dependencies, priorities, risks, and issues.
  • Work with IT Project Requester or PM to develop the Technical Feasibility Assessment (TFA) document for Funding Requests (Capex and Opex).
  • Applies active leadership skills to ensure the effectiveness and success for enterprise architecture responsibilities.
  • Lead, manage, coach, mentor, motivate, and evaluate assigned staff. Integration Architects will spend time with more junior Architects in assisting with deliverables.
  • Establishes and encourages an environment of teamwork and open communication.
  • Provides input to IT management for optimal organizational structure to implement the Integration Architecture.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of company’s core business processes, strategic business objectives, and strategic initiatives.
  • Liaise with clients and business representatives to understand the needs of business.
  • Self-driven to remain current in leading technologies and technical trends. This includes attending conferences, workshops, user groups, online training, and other research and training activities.
  • Work closely with leadership to maintain AWS costs in accordance with annual budgets.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Required: College degree in College degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field of study. B.S. or B.A. preferred

Years of Job-Related Experience Required:

  • 10+ years of experience in application development within and across heterogeneous environment
  • 10+ years in the complete application development lifecycle
  • 5+ years or more experience in a building application interfaces leveraging asynchronous integration tools
  • 2 - 3 years AWS development and solutioning experience
  • Experience building applications leveraging SNS and SQS AWS services

Technical/Other Skills Required:

  • Strong application life cycle experience
  • Strong application development skills within AWS environment.
  • Previous experience as an application architect or similar role.
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments
  • Experience in enterprise-wide technology solution implementations
  • Solid strategic planning and design skills
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to participate and lead teams of highly technical people
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and champion business objectives
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual and problem solving abilities
  • Experience with developing and documenting architecture plans - especially architectural business capability planning.
  • Proven experience in application design and development
  • Strong understanding of application architecture principles and practices
  • Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and trends, standards and products as required
  • Strong knowledge of hardware and software evaluation principles and practice
  • Solid understanding of corporate technologies & trends (EX: SOA, IOT, cloud architectures, API management …)
  • High level technical knowledge of software, hardware, protocols and standards
  • Proven skill in process mapping, process analytics and improvements
  • Proven project planning and management experience
  • Superior listening skills and ability to translate verbal descriptions into written content
  • Strong interpersonal, consultative, consensus builder, and issue resolution skills
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language and to interface on business and technical concepts
  • Able to communicate project status to various levels of management in both technical and non-technical terms
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure environment
  • Experience working in and leading a team-oriented, collaborative environment - and fostering the culture of technical collaboration
  • Ability to manage diverse skills sets and multiple concurrent groups or teams
  • Ability to mentor highly technical people to become more effective leaders
  • Ability to design with the enterprise in mind, taking into account the deliverable timelines of the project
  • Ability to remain neutral toward technology, vendor and product choices, as well as to be more interested in results than in personal preferences
