Job Summary
The Assistant Director for Campus Life: Intersectional Programs & Outreach is a critical part of the Center for Campus Life and creates a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment that supports the myriad identities community members carry. The Assistant Director serves as a resource for advocacy and education to the entire RIT community and provides outcome based programs to inform the community of relevant issues impacting how we serve students, both in the RIT community and the global society.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director for Student Engagement, the Assistant Director will provide leadership and support for through the development and delivery of programs and outreach to the campus community and is responsible for the overall administration of collaborative, multi-faceted intersectional programming. In addition, this staff member will work collaboratively with team members supporting LGBTQIA+ students, women, and gender minorities/non-binary students, spirituality & religious life, off-campus and commuter students, and clubs and organizations; and campus partners including the Division of Diversity and Inclusion, Disability Services Office, National Technical Institute for the Deaf, and other areas as appropriate.

Job Responsibilities
- Lead strategic planning and visioning for the area in order to ensure that programs are highlighting and prioritizing collaborations between LGBTQIA+ programs, Spirituality and Religious Life, women and gender minorities, and select campus partners including, but not limited to, NTID, Disability Services, and the Division of Diversity and Inclusion.
- Provide leadership and oversight in the design and delivery of programs to promote understanding of men’s awareness, abilities and effectiveness to promote a climate of respect for all genders/non-binary students on campus. Design and coordinate educational workshops and programs that promote and encourage healthy relationships for students who identify as cisgender or gender non-binary, and who value the intersectionality of their identities.
- Serve as a campus resource and internal expert about issues of intersectionality and lead and participate in campus-wide discussions about these topics.
- Provide students one-on-one advising and a safe and supportive environment for "walk in" meetings. Support those who experience bias by providing reporting options, offering support and referrals for post-incident counseling and following up to ensure cases are resolved. Advise and support student organizations connected to/affiliated with the area.
- Provide strategic oversight to programs and events that celebrate intersectionality, including leadership with cross-divisional programming by the Collective (a multi-divisional cultural programming team).
Required Qualifications
- Masters’ degree
- 2 years of full-time professional experience working with college-aged students or young adults delivering programming and outreach specifically focused on topics and issues related to students’ intersectional identities
- Effective interpersonal, written, and electronic communications skills, including the ability to convey complex information in accessible terms to diverse or multicultural audiences
- Ability to manage and maintain confidential and private information; uses confidential, sensitive and/or private records and information, protects information appropriately
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of constituencies within and outside of the university setting
- Ability to understand, review, and interpret legal and risk management policies, compliance expectations, and university guidelines and procedures
- Ability to establish, build and maintain effective working relationships based on respect, empathy and honesty with diverse groups and individuals
- Budget experience and acumen
- Experience with staff development and supervision
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with student leaders
- Demonstrated ability in designing, implementing, and evaluating programming related to the student experience
- Ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in complex situations with competing priorities
- Ability to maintain attention to detail and task completion in a fast-paced, student focused environment.
- Computer competence using software and enterprise systems appropriate for the complexities of the role and its functions
- Knowledge of Deaf culture, American Sign Language (ASL), or willingness to learn
- Experience providing education and advocacy for men
- Master’s degree in student personnel/higher education, counseling, or related area strongly preferred.
