The Operational Excellence (OE) team is charged with eliminating waste and redesigning operations to enable continued success and optimize the patient experience. The OE team thinks beyond what is expected, from simplifying patient registration and decreasing operating room turnover time to streamlining the discharge process. The OE department is highly visible, reporting to the Chief Strategy, Transformation, and Growth Officer, and all members have the opportunity to work with multidisciplinary teams comprised of clinical and business leaders. As a part of this team, you will be an essential resource, helping our hospital stay on top of our game, so we can ensure our patients do the same.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Operational Excellence, the Associate will fill an essential role for the overall success of OE programs at HSS. The role will support projects across all OE verticals in an analytical and project lead capacity. This role will be responsible for building, monitoring, and maintaining data for key operational processes and strategic programs, and support multi-disciplinary project teams focusing on process improvement efforts. The Associate will take a proactive approach to ensuring project success, leveraging technical and leadership skills to quantify impact of identified business opportunities, designing a plan towards execution, and collaborate with other OE team members and leaders throughout the organization to drive long-term results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform observations, interviews, and data analysis for key strategic initiatives and process improvement initiatives.
  • Design and execute complex analyses and models to enable data-driven decision making.
  • Translate outputs of analyses and models to impactful, leadership-ready material. Cater presentation material to various audiences, as appropriate, and facilitate discussion across multiple stakeholders.
  • Provide in-depth support on operational performance improvement and strategic planning projects, including analytical support, project leadership & management, and implementing best practice performance standards.
  • Assist in developing performance metrics, completing current and future state assessments, root cause analyses, and present recommendations in a manner necessary for decision making.

Qualifications

Education and Experience - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Engineering, Statistics or a related field.
  • Minimum Year(s) of Experience: 1
  • At least one (1) year of related experience working with MS Office Suite and data visualization tools to consistently produce high-quality deliverables.

Skills – Required

  • Strong knowledge of various software and spreadsheet applications used in process mapping, process design, work-flow management, and data analysis (e.g., MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Ability to learn and integrate with new software and operational systems used across different departments in the Hospital.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, and ability to collaborate at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to tell a story with data, appropriately tailored to the audience to support decision making.
  • Ability to critically think and synthesize information to see the big picture while effectively managing smaller details.
  • Ability to acquire skills and knowledge effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to influence people, build relationships and collaborate across stakeholders.
  • Experienced problem-solver using quantitative techniques.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, stakeholders, and deadlines effectively.

Skills & Experience – Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering, or a related field, with a focus on Management Engineering, Healthcare Systems Engineering and/or Operations Research.
  • Years of Experience: 2+
  • Experience in healthcare-focused consulting.
  • Experience in designing and implementing complex analyses, tailoring communication of findings to stakeholders.
  • Experience in managing projects effectively and applying a project management framework.
  • Strong knowledge of Tableau or similar BI tools.
  • Experience with Epic applications.
  • Lean/Six Sigma Certification, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in analyzing business processes to formulate written and spoken process improvement concepts.
