Qualifications

  • Licensed as an athletic trainer by the state of Connecticut
  • Experience with rehabilitation (preferred)
  • Strength and conditioning experience (preferred)
  • Ability to work with a variety of age groups, teachers, parents, nurses, counselors, and other medical professionals.
  • Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries and diseases. This includes knowledge of symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Board-certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (ATC)
  • CPR/AED Certified

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness to provide emergency or continued care and to determine whether they should be referred to physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
  • Evaluate athletes' readiness to play and provide participation clearances when necessary and warranted.
  • Apply protective or injury-preventive devices, such as tape, bandages, or braces, to body parts, such as ankles, fingers, or wrists.
  • Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to coaches or physicians.
  • Collaborate with physicians to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries.
  • Care for athletic injuries, using physical therapy equipment, techniques, or medication.
  • Perform general administrative tasks, such as keeping records or writing reports.
  • Plan or implement comprehensive athletic injury or illness prevention programs.
  • Instruct coaches, athletes, parents, medical personnel, or community members in the care and prevention of athletic injuries.
  • Attend all high school home contests to be available to provide care.
  • Maintain trainer's room with training supplies, coolers, med kits, and AED’s
  • Assign and collect all athletic teams' water coolers, ice chests, and med kits.
  • Check AEDs regularly.
  • Work with AD to determine needed yearly orders of supplies.
  • Travel with athletic teams to be available at sporting events.
  • Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunction, and for career counseling and guidance.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests
  • Providing personal assistance, first-aid medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to players
  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • The ability to utilize a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and school vacations as deemed necessary by the Athletic Director

Start Date: ASAP

Salary: Commensurate with experience
