Attorney Editor, US Legal Commentary

Do you enjoy delivering high-quality content? Join our Global Legal Commentary team and work closely with distinguished authors to source, create, edit, and maintain high-quality legal content for various platforms including Westlaw, print, and Proview. This role is pivotal in upholding our world-class Commentary collection through effective relationship management, adherence to deadlines, and showcasing strong editorial skills. This is an entry-level hybrid position requiring in-office work 2 days per week, located in Minneapolis-St. Paul (Eagan) (preferred) or Dallas (Frisco).

About The Role

In this opportunity as Attorney Editor you will:

  • Editorial Responsibility
    • Source, review, and maintain commentary content within the assigned portfolio, in alignment with the content strategy as defined by the Product Management team.
    • Manage third-party content relationships and liaise closely with partner departments to ensure the successful delivery of content.
    • Adhere to editorial publishing schedules and quality standards.
    • Verify the accuracy and completeness of your work and that of others.
    • Maintain and develop legal knowledge and skills to stay current on legal trends and developments.
    • Monitor market developments and changing needs to support the creation and updating of content.
    • Support specific online, print, and Proview product workflows, projects, and initiatives where required.
  • Legal Research, Analysis, and Writing
    • Create, edit, and update secondary legal content, including practice tips, highlights, and other features.
    • Identify and organize key legal issues in editorial materials while showcasing expertise in Westlaw navigation and online research tools.
    • Coordinate, quality control, and manage value-add content such as index updates, publication notes, and associated legal research to agreed schedules.
  • Collaboration and Development
    • Understand the roles and responsibilities of each team member and how they impact production.
    • Understand and prioritize work, demonstrating competence in company-specific systems necessary for job functions.
    • Communicate clearly and effectively with all contacts, both within and outside the organization.
    • Work effectively as part of a larger team, participating in team meetings and the employee evaluation process.
    • Collaborate with others to problem solve and facilitate successful delivery against goals/OKRs, lending domain expertise and supporting author relations where required.
    • Develop knowledge of Thomson Reuters Legal publications and products, as well as those of competitors.


About You:

You are a fit for the role of Attorney Editor if your background includes:

  • A J.D. degree from an accredited law school (Required).
  • Law review or journal experience (Preferred).
  • Experience practicing law in Texas (Preferred).
  • Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills.
  • A self-starter attitude with strong legal research and writing skills.
  • The capability to interpret, analyze, organize, and communicate complex legal material effectively.
  • Analytical thinking skills with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
  • The ability to make quality decisions quickly and decisively.
  • Proficiency with personal computers, word processing, and online applications.
  • Ability to both work independently and collaborate with others.
  • Attention to detail, strong time management and organizational skills, and the ability to juggle competing deadlines, adapt to changing priorities and deadlines, and escalate where appropriate.
