Auxiliary Power Engineer
In this role, you will be instrumental in the development and design of auxiliary power systems for substations and power plants. Your responsibilities will encompass creating technical specifications, conducting studies, and preparing engineering documentation essential for the successful implementation of projects. Estimated Duration: 6 months with potential for extension or direct hire
Responsibilities:
- Develop criteria for Synchronous Condensers Auxiliary power systems.
- Develop criteria for FACTS and substations Auxiliary power systems.
- Create Single Line Drawings for AC and DC Auxiliary Power Substations and FACTS projects.
- Generate Three Line Drawings for AC and DC systems.
- Compile Load lists for electrical power substations and FACTS projects.
- Prepare design and Request for Quotation (RfQ) packages for Motor Control Centers (MCC) in AC and DC.
- Prepare design and RfQ packages for MV Switchgear.
- Prepare design and RfQ packages for LV Panelboards.
- Perform calculations for sizing auxiliary power transformers, battery banks, UPS, and battery chargers.
- Develop technical specifications for AC and DC equipment including Auxiliary Power Transformers, ATS, AC and DC Panels, Voltage Stabilizers, UPS, Inverters, battery chargers, battery banks, and safety switches.
- Conduct Arc Flash and Voltage Drop studies.
- Develop Aux power Cable lists and Cable Schedules.
- Develop Panel schedules.
- Assist in defining auxiliary power strategies and concepts for proposals.
- Calculate conduit fill for auxiliary power cables.
- Create bills of materials for auxiliary power equipment.
- Review manufacturer's documentation and develop engineering execution plans to support project schedules.
- Ensure engineering deliverables adhere to scheduled dates; communicate potential delays or risks to Project Engineers.
- Support Marketing and Project teams during project execution and customer meetings.
- Mentor and guide entry-level engineers.
- Identify, notify, and propose solutions for potential safety, reliability, cost, and schedule issues on projects.
- Undertake special assignments and provide technical advice within the area of expertise.
- Flexible to travel locally and internationally (approximately 20% travel required).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechanical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience focused on auxiliary power design for substations or power plants.
- Fluent in English.
- Knowledge of ANSI, NFPA standards; familiarity with IEC standards is advantageous.
- Experience with equipment commonly used in substations.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical and Microstation is a plus.
- Strong communication skills.
- Eligible to obtain a professional engineering license; PE license preferred.
