Description

We are looking for a talented Battery Modeling and Control Engineer to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Accelera Business Unit in Columbus, IN .

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • The position involves the research, design, analysis, testing and failure analysis of chemical based products, including catalyst, substrates, sensors, batteries and fuel cells.
  • Provides independent leadership of smaller business impact projects or ownership of complex components, products, systems or services with greater elements of ambiguity over the senior or lead engineer level and with full accountability to the project team.
  • Delivers independent execution of established and emerging work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge.
  • Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across a functional discipline area within a business unit.
  • Coordinates and directs work amongst technicians and temporary student employees, assists in the transfer of knowledge to lesser experienced engineers through either indirect (scope of influence) or direct management of a small, local group of engineers.
  • Provides support and guidance to influence technical direction within a project team and continues to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role (see “competencies” below)

Responsibilities

Experience

  • Develop battery models using first-principles physics-based and/or data-driven empirical methodologies.
  • Develop advanced models and algorithms for battery life simulations and for the use of advanced close-loop state estimation algorithms.
  • Support the development of a variety of battery control strategies and methods that ensure optimal and safe battery operation. This includes battery modeling, state estimation, calibration, and validation at all levels.
  • Work with cell engineers to develop electrochemical characterization and cell test plans for model parametrization and validation.
  • Implement developed models in Matlab/Simulink for BMS algorithms MIL/ HIL validations.

Compensation

Salary Range: $84,000 - $127,200. Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidates qualifications and experience, where appropriate.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Engineering
  • Experience in physics-based modeling of electrochemical, thermal, fluid, or chemical transport systems.
  • Strong fundamental knowledge on lithium-ion battery chemistry, electrochemical and thermal processes, and aging mechanisms
  • Strong mathematic skills in numerical methods of solving PDEs and ODEs, numerical optimization, and control theories.
