The Business Development Manager is responsible for ensuring driving top line and bottom line results for certain product lines. This position will manage the P & L on assigned Butterball retail product lines to maximize margins. In order to manage the P & L there are essential functions of this position that must be performed: revenue & margin management, strategic planning, forecasting, cost management, category management and new products coordination. The Business Development Manager also develops the strategy, processes and tools to drive effective trade pricing. This position will continuously find improvement in the retail marketing strategy and provides solutions to pricing, promotion and revenue management on assigned product lines. Communicates and assists the sales force on category management and manages the sales forecast process to facilitate production schedules. This position is also responsible for reviewing financial information for accuracy and managing the inventory process to reduce distressed sales.
Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:
Revenue & Margin Management
- Deliver volume within Planned Revenue & Margin targets
• New Authorization P&L
– Develop customer programs with sales input
– Execute planned revenue targets
• Measure Return on Sales of programs
– Actual vs. Planned
• Oversee Underpayment management
• Support Sales in executing Pricing actions
Planning
• Trade Promotion Strategy
– Develop and recommend pricing and promotion strategies
– Manage trade planning processes with TPO and TPM tools
– Communicate and execute with Sales
• AOP
– Provide strategies and tactics for each channel of business
– Develop next year’s forecast of volume and revenue
• Account
– Develop Account plans for trade spending
– Provide analysis for optimal product mix
• Market
– Monitor pricing and programs within markets for effectiveness
Forecasting
• Facilitate Sales Forecast
• Develop Business forecast for volume by subcategory
• Review Sales/Business and Supply Chain Forecasts – Gain Consensus
• Monitor compliance with COB and SPC forms
• React to Alert and Distressed Product
– Aid in moving any short-coded product
– Address cause of short-coded product
Cost Management
• Review cost files to determine pricing action requirements
• Work with sales to effectively manage ROS based on cost changes
• Assist in development of cost estimates for new products
• Look for cost improvement opportunities
– Transportation
– Product assortment
– SKU Rationalization
Category Management
• Assist Category Manager in training sales force in use of syndicated data
• Direct/Assist Category Management support personnel with Sales data requests
• Review syndicated data for trends and recommend corrective action
• Use Category Management Data to Identify Opportunity Gaps
– Customer assortment
– Competitive assortment
New Products Coordinator
• Develop sales estimate for targeted Accounts/Markets
• Assist in Development of Account Level Marketing Tools
• Develop Production forecast for new products
• Deliver Sales Volume within Revenue Targets
– Manage Slotting Dollar Investment for New Item Rollouts
• Assist in Sales Presentations
Additional Responsibilities:
• Attend outside Sales Calls with Sales Managers to assist in pricing and interpretation of data analysis.
• Present market data and analysis at quarterly sales meetings to ensure all Sales Managers are informed with Butterball Retail performance, opportunities, and threats in the marketplace.
• Assist in Annual Financial and Marketing Planning by providing data analysis.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• This position requires strong analytical skills. The incumbent must be able to support a sales team through analyzing results and market data in order to make decisions regarding customer accounts.
• A strong understanding of the turkey business, product assortment knowledge and category consumer preferences is necessary in the interpreting and analysis of syndicated data.
• Strong Excel, Microsoft Teams, Power BI, syndicated data such as Circana Unify software and trade management software knowledge skill are extremely important.
Education & Experience:
• This position requires a college business degree with emphasis in marketing and or management.
• This position requires 5 to 7 years of retail CPG experience.
• The incumbent should have at least 3 to 5 years of P & L management skills, trade management experience, project leadership and forecasting skills as well as be familiar with calling on retail/international CPG customers is preferred or highly desired.
