Job Summary:

Join the Colorado School of Public Health as a Business Services Principal Professional. This position is a key member of the school’s Center for Innovative Design and Analysis (CIDA) and will support the Directors in creating, managing, and interpreting the fiscal and regulatory aspects of CIDA’s grants and contracts. This position will implement systems to verify transactions and details posted in the university finance system, develop budget proposals for the center, and work with center faculty to monitor their individual development and grant accounts.

The individual in this position will be faced with multiple priorities and must be flexible, adaptable, and able to articulate thoughts and explanations to those with varying levels of understanding in finance and budgeting. This individual must also have a strong attention to detail and a highly responsive communication style.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide fiscal support to CIDA in the areas of payroll (payroll tracking, HCM entries, Payroll Expense Transfers), auxiliary/consulting (contract review, negotiation, and execution), operations and reserve accounts (income and expense tracking), budgeting and projections (development and preparation of fiscal reporting tools), and reporting and monitoring (review and interpretation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting).
  • Review and reconcile award notices; develop and manage progress reports, no-cost extension requests, carry-over requests, and supplement applications.
  • Work with Principal Investigators to revise budgets as needed and coordinate setup of awards in the University systems.
  • Review and revise CIDA business processes to help improve productivity/effectiveness while allowing for growth and organizational change.
  • Provide/coordinate periodic training to staff and faculty and offer ongoing consultation in areas specific to research support.
  • Coordinate large purchases or payments (e.g. review of Statement of Work, vendor setup, purchasing requisition, invoice payments).
  • Review and approve all monthly expense and travel reports for assigned personnel; review assigned purchasing to ensure compliance with funding sources and budget availability.

This is a full-time position and reports to the Assistant Director of Operations.

Work Location:

Hybrid – This position is located on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO and is eligible to work a hybrid schedule with at least two days of the week that can be worked from home.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, finance, or other closely related field.
    • Substitution: Relevant experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis, but not for the specific experience.
  • 3 years of experience in contract management, grants management, and/or financial management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in finance or grant management in a Higher Education Institutional setting
  • Experience with various types of funding and accounts including grants, contracts, gifts, endowments, state funding, indirect cost recovery, consulting revenue, auxiliaries, and service centers
  • Familiarity with CU procurement and accounting software such as Concur and Marketplace systems

  • Knowledge of University funds types and usages, accounting, budgeting and finance principles.
  • Proficiency in financial management and the ability to manage funds from a variety of sources.
  • High degree of technical and analytical skills in fiscal management, and knowledge of accounting and business practices, including accounting software packages.
  • Ability to evaluate, analyze and interpret vast amounts of data, recommend solutions, and implement a course of action.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting target salary for this position has been established as

$69,591 - $78,000.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
