SOLIDSKY

Catalyst Researcher: Carbon Utilization

SOLIDSKY United States

SolidSky is a carbon utilization startup on a simple mission: net-zero plastics manufacturing, abating over 250MT of CO2 annually. Ambitious? Yes. Impossible? No.

SolidSky is developing a new form of catalyst that can convert CO2 to Ethylene at high selectivity and low energy levels. The technology is being spun out of a DOE Lab, and SolidSky is working closely with the research team to commercialize this tech. We intend to house this catalyst in a reactor that will colocate at olefin plants, where captured CO2 from the point sources will feed a reaction that leads to Ethylene rendered purely from fossil fuel emissions. The petrochemical sector has largely given up on the premise of carbon utilization for plastics. The tech they knew about would make the power consumption infeasible. Our tech changes all of that. And we are just getting started.

SolidSky is seeking a Catalyst Researcher to join our team. Full disclosure: we are currently a pre-revenue, pre-funding startup. This role won't be for everyone. But if you want to take a chance on our ambitious mission, we're happy to have you. Our ideal candidate looks something like this:

  • PhDs or post-docs preferred
  • Experience in catalyst research and development. Inorganics or thermochemistry preferred
  • Experience working with petrochemicals is also a plus
  • Experience leading early-stage research and managing funded projects
  • Experience in grant writing and development
  • Experience in catalyst optimization
  • Able to be a strong solo contributor on an early stage team where there will be ambiguity
  • Strong communication skills are essential
  • Mission-driven to make an impact on the climate. We're in this for the long haul, and it's easier when everyone wants to solve the same problem

The candidate's initial role will be as a PI on various grant awards for Federal and State-level funding opportunities. Responsibilities will be on a case-by-case basis dependent on the grant.

If this sounds like you, send us your resume and we'd be excited to speak with you!
